The lament of the four wheeler who thought he could then proceeded to join the ranks of the untold number of fools to impatient for their own good. I recently had the privledge of working with Southwest Salvage moving a number of grain cars that had gone off the tracks near Newdale, Manitoba, Canada.

It seems that on one trip while southbound on I-39 in Illinois, as he approached the Rest Area at mile marker 81, he heard a faint "help me" coming over the CB radio.....

The wonders of electronics have taken the long haul driver of not so long ago and changed his environment from that of the solitary truck cab to that of the complete mobile office. As with any such transition the first of each of the components was fairly low tech and costly to use. Case in point, the mobile phone the first units were large, cumbersome, expensive to buy and use, had limited user areas, required operator assistance to place every call and no privacy to boot.....

Then maybe it's things you've heard or seen from others that you have a slightly different perspective on and you would really like others to hear your thoughts.

You now look for a platform with which to spread your words and as this is your first effort in this direction the first place you look is e-mail and creating your own ezine. The ezine part of the equation is realitively simple you put together a content based template then using that template you enter content and voila you have anezine ready to be sent out to subscribers......

100% Spam Free?

Now that is one heck of a claim! Is it really possible? Is there a program out there that can get me out of the Spam Hell Hole? Well the answer is yes and no.

At this point there isn't any program available that can clean the spam from your inbox totally, as each time a new filter is designed to combat the onslot of unsolicited e-mail arriving daily in your inbox the spammers find away around it. And now the SPAMers have come up with a new twist to add to your e-mail woes by hijacking your domain. This means using your e-mail address as a return address for their spam. A very informative article by Jim Gray co-founder of Quikonnex titled Are you an unwilling spammer shows you how they do it. Now this means you not only receive all the spam your used to but you get the added onslot of return mail from those spam messages they sent everyone else.

All that and the added bonus of being server blacklisted and accused of spamming yourself, from email you never sent.

Putting ones self in harms way is how our Canadian armed forces have secured the freedom we take for granted. The same one we use to
bitch about the armed forces. We thank them for keeping us safe while in the same breath complain that they are war mongers.
I thank them for protecting my right to express myself freely and only wish the government that is supposed to support them did.
I am also glad to have a neighbour like the U.S.A. who fields a group of like minded men and women who give us the ability to sleep at
night. With the poor excuse for support that our government offers our troups I'm surprised they are able to preform at the levels
they do - my hat goes off to them.

Though cutting it close on a heavily trafficked two lane while not acceptable is a little more understandable the necessity to attempt to remove road grime from my front end with their trailer on a four lane divided highway is totally beyond me.
[READ MORE] [COMMENT]

This is our first letter from participants in one of the programs for kids. I'm sure it will touch your heart as it has mine. Thank-you Lynne and Larry for your contribution it goes a long ways to showing the world that truckers are people who care. I invite any who are involved in programs with kids to write and I will do my best to post your letters here. It is our hope that through the reading of the experiences of others in our profession and the lives they touch that many more will join them in supporting these organizations in thought and deed. Please read on about the experiences of Lynne and Larry and the organization they are members of.

My husband and I have been Trucker Buddies for 4 years. We have always dealt with special needs kids because it is very close to both our hearts. The first two schools we had were one in Canada and one in the States.

A view of dispatching from behind the wheel of a truck:

I've been staring out the windshield navigating one of these highway beasts across our two countries (Canada and the U. S. A.) for the better part of thirty years. Few jobs around offer the freedom this one does and few ask as much from its people. In recent years the advent of the cell phone and satellite communication has brought family and dispatch a lot closer to us than in the past. Though nothing brings a driver closer to their family than the front door to their home. A dispatcher to us can be a good friend or one of our worst nightmares. They can help us earn our livelihood and see the ones we love or help us into bankruptcy and divorce court. Extremes you may think but truer than you know.

Thinking of moving on - time to try working elsewhere - is the grass really greener somewhere else? Here are some of my observations over the time I've been in the trucking industry. An industry that I've had varying roles in, as a driver I have pulled many different types of comodities: dry van, reefer, flatdeck, dry bulker and tanker to name a few. As a dispatcher (in training) I've heard the comments from management about truckers and truckers about management. From both sides some warranted and some not.
