Despite
over 14,000 podcasts at the PodcastingNews Directory, Apple's 4th
quarter iPod shipments topping 14 million, and the term 'podcast' being
declared Word of the Year for 2005 by the New Oxford American
Dictionary, podcasting remains a relatively unknown concept. Utilizing
an online Virtual Expo Center, the International Podcasting Expo will
make Podcasting information, resources and services available to anyone
with an internet connection.
(PRWEB) March
21, 2006 -- Podcasting is exploding. Apple shipped more than 14 million
iPods in its 2005 4th Quarter, according to Robert McMillan, IDG News
Service. Forecasters predict up to 60 million people will be
downloading podcasts by the year 2010.

What does this mean for podcasters? It means that their targeted
listening market is increasing every day. People with iPods, as well as
MP3 players, PDAs and Cell Phones with digital audio players, are
looking for quality content in their areas of interest.
Although the Podcasting Community includes such large organizations as
IBM, Oracle, Purina, Philadelphia Eagles, Purdue, Notre Dame, CBS,
Nintendo, and the NYPD, a majority of the world still has not heard the
word "podcast", nor does it understand podcasting's usefulness for
education and business, as well as entertainment.
The International Podcasting Expo,
April 21 - 23, 2006, hopes to change that. This online Podcasting Expo
will be a 48 hour, around-the-clock event, taking place within an
online Virtual Expo Center. Therefore, anyone in the world with an
Internet connection can attend.
Events will include a 48 hour live Podcast Marathon in a 500 person
cross-platform audio conference room, with Internet presentation and
recording capabilities. Podcast listeners can attend (and even
participate in) live podcasts with their favorite podcast
personalities. The recorded podcasts will be immediately posted on a
special Expo Podcast feed.
Expo Attendees can participate in seminars and conferences, which will
be held in another cross-platform audio conference room. All seminars
will be recorded and posted in the Seminar Library, so late-comers can
still review the sessions they missed.
Expo organizer, Penny Haynes, of 1st Podcast Publishing, wants this to
be a grass roots expo that allows any podcaster from any country to
participate. "The Expo is presently looking for international
podcasting hosts to lead seminars and conferences in their own
languages, so they can reach their own market during their own time
zone. These chosen International Hosts will receive a free Exhibitor
booth for their assistance in expanding the reach of podcasting around
the world."
The first Exhibitors to come on board include Kelly McCausey of Work At
Home Moms Talk Radio, Tammy Munson of Republican Women Talk Radio,
Shane Matsumoto of Paradigm Lost Productions, and Lisa Boyd of Zeteo
Solutions. The International Podcasting Expo is truly "By Podcasters
and For Podcasters."

Business Building Tips for Using Audio on Your Site
I was asked what good audio can do for a business site. I decided to share here what my response was:
Audio testimonials are very good, because they get across a degree of emotion that words alone cannot. Plus, when edited and mixed with fitting motivational music, it can be a powerful punch. And very affordable.
In addition, a welcome message that people have the option to listen to is helpful (and inexpensive), because people actually will trust a voice faster than a silent website. Not to mention, listening to your voice creates a personal connection between the two of you IF you come across as genuine and not trying just to "sell" something. Audio is for entrepreneurs who want to build relationships with clients - something sales and web copy doesn't do.
You can also consider having an audio message that is attached to each of your services, where you describe what each one really entails and offers. It's like having a salesperson walk around the store with you and explain the products and services.
Lastly, you can always do a running commentary or inspirational series in audio, and stream it, let people download it manually from your site, or podcast it to generate publicity for your site, expertise and products.
Lots of things to do with audio... Penny Haynes, eMediaTouch

Very well put, Sheila, and great comments. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience and knowledge with us.

Penny’s right - audio can do great things for businesses with websites! People do trust what they hear and testimonials from happy customers go a long way. As Penny says, audio on business websites creates that connection, either on its own or alongside video. However, putting together testimonials for business websites is very different from the “DIY”, market in audio and video. There is clearly a massive market for social networking, podcasting and short film technology, like YouTube, MyVideoTalk, etc. But for businesses, brand reputation is critical. Poorly executed audio or video can easily lead to brand damage. For audio to sound professional, it needs to be just that – professional! Certainly, testimonials from real customers, in their own voice are hugely effective, but in that case, the packaging is critical. Welcome messages need purpose. Website audio or video has to add value and deliver something that can’t be done with text or images alone. If you want an example, look at http://www.nrg-networks.com or http://www.bishopslaw.co.uk .
Using audio to describe your products can be effective, but overusing it can drive away customers rather than attract them. If you’ve got a particular product which isn’t selling well, perhaps because there is a complexity about it, highlighting it and explaining it using audio your website is a really efficient, cost-effective use of the medium.
Writing for voice, recording and producing audio and video scripts, understanding marketing, brand values, the power of the spoken word - even the physical distance between mouth and microphone - are all essential skills to add to the technology. It's the difference between brand enhancement and brand destruction – calling in professional help might be more expensive in the short term, but far less costly for your corporate future.
Getting out the headset mic and sitting in a quiet part of the office to record a friendly message for your website is the easy part. But think carefully about how your words will impact on your company brand and reputation before you press the record button.

I love the joke about the man who remarks to his wife about how women use twice as many words as men. The wife explains it as being due to women having to repeat themselves, to which the man replies, "Uh, what did you say?" (smile)
As entrepreneurs, we tend to do the same thing - repeat the same presentation over and over again. It's a necessary evil, of sorts, because we NEED to lay down a fundamental understanding of who we are and what we offer. However, if you look at it from a practical standpoint, time spent doing a generic informational presentation could, at times, be better spent catering to serious clients and discussing the needs specific to their situation.

Why do consummate professionals, who strive for excellence in everything they do, offer their clients raw, unedited audio products?
Picture the scene. They prepare for the teleconference seminar, they get their information and outline together, they may get co-hosts to work with them, they spend hours advertising or networking to get the word out about the seminar. Then comes the event and they record the seminar, knowing that the end goal is a series of audio CDs for later sale.
Yet these consummate professionals, who realize that every email, every letter, every web page, every conversation, is a reflection of their level of professionalism, will then send out a RAW audio recording of their teleconference, including the long pauses, the joking and personal references, the obvious difference in sound levels (where some people are loud and others barely audible).
How about the discussion between the co-hosts about what they should discuss next, not to mention the "uhs" and "you knows" and half-finished sentences that suddenly change mid-phrase to another sentence when the speaker thinks twice about what they were about to say? Is this something that you would expect from a professional you had just paid $197.85 to access this recorded telecourse? I don't think so. Just listen to this comparison of raw and edited audio...
So, my question to you is, why would you release raw audio to your clients?

It all started when one of my clients told me that she was so happy to have found one person she could go to for all of her needs - products, website, consulting, etc. I realized that, with the professional connections I have, providing one-stop-shopping for entrepreneurs who don't have the time or energy to find trustworthy professionals was something I could offer my clients.
Therefore, eMediaTouch.com is very proud to announce our alliance with some very talented and dedicated professionals. Although my specialty is audio and video services, products and resources that range from recording and editing to CD and DVD duplication and fulfillment, I have utilized my connections to provide my clients with much more than multi-media.
Self-described "Non-techies" appreciate us, because as a group we provide one-stop-shopping for their website (creation and maintenance), their multi-media needs, their products, administrative help, RSS/Podcast/Blog setup, Audio Recording Lines, business consulting, graphics, ebooks, and more. We've put together a team of people who can take care of your business, because we are specialists in our fields of expertise, and although we can cross-over into other areas, we'd rather stick with what we love. I'd like to introduce you to our team of experts...

A very wise man (actually, my mentor and father-in-the-Lord) once said to me, "Penny, one day, people will pay you for what you know." 10 years ago, just starting back out into the business realm, after a 5 year hiatus of raising my children, I couldn't believe I could ever know anything so valuable as to make people willing to pay me for it. But he was (as always), so right. After years of doing, I find myself conducting what I have finally realized is Business Consulting in the area about which I am most passionate - digital download media, and eBusiness resources that allow you to increase your exposure with minimal monetary outlay and less reliance on outsourcing.

Happy New Year, Free Audio Book and Podcast Lovers!
Well, as the new year starts, I hope that this year will be the best ever for you: that you will do things you have heretofore feared, go places you have dreamed of but to which you have never journeyed (except in your mind), and become the person you have always wanted to be.
For Your Voice, this new year will entail some shifting and moving, as we move forward out of beta testing and into paid subscriptions for most of our audiozines. I am coming to realize that what we are is a "podcast" of sorts - topical and verbal in nature, as opposed to musical, and we are researching the best ways to "broadcast" to you. We will be having new original books available, with free audio excerpts and samplers for your listening pleasure.

Your Voice, the Audiozine, offers special reduced subscription rates of at least 50% off to the legally blind. Additional free Audiozines include a weekly audio sampler and weekly Christian Devotion.
(PRWEB) January 3, 2005 -- Your Voice, the Audiozine, is offering all weekly audiozine subscriptions to the legally blind at special reduced rates of at least 50% off. "I can't imagine running an audio business and not making our content easily and affordably available to every blind person in the world. That, to me, would be a great mismanagement of the resources with which we have been entrusted," states Penny Haynes, CEO of Encouraging Enterprises, Inc.

"Summary : Many proponents have said that the Internet would enable grassroots businesses to spring more or les s spontaneously into existence. Since the Net provides a distribution channel to virtually anyone, people who could never get their ideas out to the public before can do so now.
Today's guest underscores the validity of the concept. Penny Haynes doesn't like to read books or magazines because she doesn't have the time. But she does like to put her drive time to constructive use. To that end she became an early addict of Audible.com where she could b uy books in a spoken-word format over the Internet, burn them to CD-R media, and then play them in her car.
