Google Advertising Changes for Affiliate Marketeers

Friday, January 07, 2005
If you're advertising products and services as an affiliate and using your affiliate URL, you'll probably want to review Google's new policy regarding affiliate advertising. You can still make money, but you'll need to change the way you're marketing those products.

With this new policy , Google will only display one ad per search query for affiliates and parent companies sharing the same URL. If there are 2 ads available, Google will show the ad with the highest Ad Rank (who do you think this will be?). Therefore, it'd be wise to create pages on your own domains (or buy extra domains for your affiliate programs) and direct your adwords to those pages, not your your affiliate URLs.
