Exchanging Sets of Chains - Welfare State

Thursday, September 09, 2004
How America Became a Socialist Welfare State.

“Workers of the World, Unite! You have nothing to lose but your chains!” –Karl Marx.

It turns out that one set of chains was simply replaced by another.

Both of the main political parties in this country are deliberately embracing socialism and pandering to the voters by promising largesse from the public treasury. But much of the blame lies with ignorant and mis-educated citizens who clamor for the federal government to supply benefits...
...We see this going on now during the political circus that precedes another presidential election. The people are demanding that the presidential candidates offer them not only federally administered education, but also health care and jobs. The ignorant electorates are unwittingly begging for Socialism and even for Communism.

One may legitimately ask, “Just where in the Constitution of the U.S. does it require the federal government to control and administer the education of our children?” The answer is, of course, that the Constitution nowhere authorizes this. The public schools are meant to be a local responsibility. Universities are to be supervised by the states or the churches.

There are inherent dangers in allowing the feds to take over the schools, because they can then manipulate the curricula for ideological mis-education and indoctrination towards a political agenda that will gradually reduce the political power of the people and increase and centralize power in the hands of an exigent oligarchy. This we see has long been the case in a once free America. The pyramid of power has been inverted and turned on its ear. The people are now dependent and all but helpless before a contemptuous and burgeoning corporatist federalism.

In a free republic, the government is not obligated to provide jobs. Jobs need to be provided by the private sector. To demand jobs from government is to abandon personal liberty and to practice some form of socialism or communism.

Likewise, health care is a private matter, and should be a personal responsibility. Those who are impoverished for one reason or another may seek medical and nursing care through voluntary organization such as churches, and charitable foundations, but socialist politicians have led the people to believe that health care is a right, and should be provided by government. Any time the people relinquish to government the power to give them everything that want, the government then automatically acquires the power to take everything away from the people.

Behind the great fortunes of the rich, there is usually a series of great crimes. Wealth can be either stolen, or wealth can come from the application of free men’s labors upon natural resources in a market economy free from regulation.

The problem is that the workers alone generally don’t have the brains and ability to pull themselves out of poverty without leaders who can show the way to personal prosperity. The stupid and indolent underclasses will always be with us and, invariably, when lifted out of poverty by federal intervention they will soon revert again to poverty and cry out for more of the federal dole. We need leaders who strive to perform selfless services for the benefit of their fellows and who understand the principles that can lead to prosperity. But men must not be taxed in their labors in order to support the indolent.

Educable people need to be educated, and then be allowed to keep the bulk of the fruits of their own labor. Excessive taxation is inimical to proper incentives. When socialistic plans take over control of the means of production and distribution and, when the productive citizen is continually robbed by confiscatory taxation and seizure of his assets, he will eventually cease to be productive. This hard lesson has been learned over and over in countries like Russia and East Germany. But it seems that each new generation either misunderstands or forgets.

Otherwise, I think that governments of all shades need to get out of the way and allow the people, those that can, who are willing and able to work, enough incentives to actualize themselves. For sharing the “wealth” by government enforced redistribution always ends up with the mass of men merely sharing the poverty. Through these deceptions, Socialist leaders tend to try to keep a firm grip on their power instead of working for the common good. Thus, a people can never stay free for long if corporate thieves and/or the government bureaucrats have usurped control of all of the wealth and power.

That's right Jeffery. Just like children. They want it all but don't want to learn to work for it...

If we are given the bare necessities to exist by our government we are nothing more than slaves. Ever notice how some kids demand "things" and parents give it to them to shut them up or keep them from running away or in some cases, killing them? Well, that's the way it is with welfare. The gov must give them what they demand or they won't vote for them and the more the gov gives the more the mouchers want. There are indeed needy people and there are leaches too. Always have been, always will be. Too bad...

Thankd for writing and reading.
