Internet Marketing - Go Blog Yourself...

Wednesday, August 25, 2004

Kenneth Doyle - eAnalystBlogs hold the promise of being a powerful Internet marketing tool for Internet Marketers. However, there are lessons to be learned here from the recent use of bloggers at the Presidential convention.

A Ferrari is just an expensive car without the skills to drive it...

In simple terms the rules of Internet marketing remain the same whatever, (and however) you're marketing. With blogs the medium allows the writer to deliver meaningful content quickly and regularly to their readership. This is its true power, meaningful online content, fast (and regular).

As you can see from this article by Avery Walker on "Advice for the overrated blogosphere" political blogging did not quite live up to its promise due to the quality of the writing and the focus of the writers. The points Avery raises can well be applied to the use of blogs for marketing on the net.

Blogging may well be a powerful internet marketing strategy, but without a focus on good content which is of benefitl to the reader it is a completely wasted exercise.

This is what I've personally gleaned from Avery's article.

1. Don't alienate your audience by going geekie on them with your language. Writing is about good c o m m u n i c a t i o n on your topic of interest.

2. Yes, put personality into your writing, but do not become self centered with your writing. I mean if you're using a blog as an internet marketing strategy then the stuff you write is about them (your readership), not about you (really, who cares what you had for breakfast?).

3. Don't shoot your mouth off about something without knowing the facts. If what you're writing about is your own personal opinion then state this. Everyone is entitled to a personal opinion. Be honest with your readership.

4. Stop writing about the weather. Avery is right on the money here. From my internet marketing perspective this translates into "stop writing nonsense". If people want to know what the weather is like then they can look out the window, or tune into the news.

Here's the rub... A blog is about writing good content for a selected and focused niche audience. The internet marketing strategy here is "help to solve people's problems with the focused articles you write".

If you honour the princliples of giving and sharing on the net you will succeed, interesting that?

Expect Success.

PS... My blog system of choice is Quikonnex, which is a fully integrated content management and communication system. It is by far the best rss system available on the net.

Knowledge, in my opinion, is always obtained by learning what others have tried, tested, and then share with others. All of us learn by sharing.

Many thanks to you for helping me.
