Helleborus Hybridus

Friday, April 16, 2004

We are often asked what companion plants work well with Japanese maples. One of our personal favorites are the Hellebores!

Wonderfull flowers, hardy, easy to grow, virtually pest free plants that grace the late windter/early spring garden with flowers!

Previously known as Helleborus orientalis. Now simply called Helleborus x hybridus as they are a complex hybrid of several species within the genus Helleborus.

Our "Sunshine Strain" selection comes from our friend - the self proclaimed "King of Hellebores"! - Barry Glick at Sunshine Farm in West Virginia. Barry has accumulated over 50,000 stock plants in the last 10 years and has an ongoing, extensive breeding program in place.

New from tissure culture - what a beautiful hellebore! Incredible marbling on the huge leathery foliage is evergreen and the 3"-5" white flowers are sterile last for months. Check it out!
