'Asahi Zuru' Japanese Maple

Friday, April 09, 2004

Acer palmatum 'Asahi zuru' is a variegated leaf form of Japanese maple.

This plant has leaves with well defined areas of cream and white variegation on a green background. Its name means "the dawn swan".

Leaves may have a pink tone in Spring with highly variable white or cream markings. Variegation becomes more pronounced after a few years.

It makes a nice, upright growing small tree up to 24 feet tall and 12 feet wide. Benefits from some afternoon shade to prevent leaf burn, it fits well in the landscape and is highly desirable.
