Animals are Better Than People?

What Really Separates Us?
Trina L.C. Sonnenberg

Human beings claim to be the most advanced species on the planet. What makes us so much better than the animals? The size of our brains? I hardly think that qualifies for being number one.

What makes us different than animals? Animals, bear young and teach them how to survive. Many animals are monogamous, so there is no need for marriage ceremonies, or divorce courts. Animals seldom kill more than they can eat, unless they're providing for their young, and they're not known for killing each other, with in their own species. They protect their territory, but do not often invade another's. They do not quarrel over religious beliefs, or political views. Their leaders prove themselves capable of leadership, and must win the right to lead.

With all of that said, I think that animals have more on us than we do them. It appears that animal societies manage to work without too much upheaval. They have laws, but do not require law enforcement. Those who break the law are no longer welcome in that particular society and are chased out or killed. There are no courts, no trials, no media. They live by what we've come to term: the natural order of things.

Animals don't do drugs, abuse their spouses or offspring; they don't steal from others nor do they commit murder. There are no prisons, rehab centers, or foster homes. Animals take care of each other.

We, at least in the U.S., take better care of our criminals than we do our children and elders. Humans can't seem to be faithful or loyal for an extended period of time either. We take what is not ours, abuse our children and kill each other on a regular basis.

So, why are we better than animals? I don't think we are. We have just made living more complicated then they have.
