LOGON Newsletter - Investigative Reporting
Unconventional methods produce exceptional results

Hello LOGON readers.

*Wow! It was 55 degrees today in Helena Montana. I'm impressed and ready for Spring even if I am recuperating from two fractured ribs. Now, there is some serious pain. I took a tumble in the yard (coming up the front steps. Seems I didn't lift my foot high enough and that's all it took. Now you know why I always say - be careful out there!

Have you received one of those KILLER email yet? They are going around again. I got one the other day and for a second I wanted to get Betsy out of retirement. Of course I didn't know who to go after and then my investigative mode kicked in and I went looking. It was signed: BELLO HUSAN, KILLER - Anyway I sent it to the FBI, Gov Crime Complaints, and local cops. Yes, I know, I'll wait till hell freezes over before they have time to deal with it however, it made me feel better. If you get one, it's your choice as to what to do with it

* Did you hear the latest on Gary Shawkey? Missing Man's Boat Found In Long Beach Robert Lee Vendrick's Business Partner Is 'Person Of Interest'
DANA POINT, Calif.
The U.S. Coast Guard Wednesday helped in the search for Robert Lee Vendrick, a 71-year-old Phoenix man who disappeared under mysterious circumstances.

Vendrick flew into Long Beach Airport Friday and rented a car. His wife later reported him missing when he failed to come home, Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff's Department said.

Vendrick was supposed to be collecting a "highly secretive" $1 million-plus investment related to the federal government, Amormino said, based on information derived from the wife via Vendrick's partner, Gary Shawkey. * Hope Spring is in the air where you are. Take time to read or skim the news below or save until later. Glad you are with me. Check out my new blog and leave a comment. I just KNOW someone out there has an opinion. It's about Islamofascism - WHAT, you say? Better find out...

A Matter of Liberty

“The fact that an obese person becomes ill, or a cyclist has an accident, and becomes a burden on taxpayers who must bear the expense of taking care of him, is not a problem of liberty. It’s a problem of socialism where one person is forced to take care of another. There is no moral argument that justifies using the coercive powers of government to force one person to bear the expense of taking care of another...

Forcing one person to bear the burden of health care costs for another is not only a moral question but a major threat to personal liberty. Think about all the behaviors and lifestyles that can lead to illness and increase the burden on taxpayers. A daily salt intake exceeding 6 grams can lead to hypertension. A high-fat diet and high alcohol intake can also lead to diabetes. A sedentary lifestyle can lead to several costly diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and heart failure.

There are many other behaviors that lead to a greater health care burden, but my question is how much control over your life you are willing to give government in the name of reducing these costs? Would you want government to regulate how much salt you use? What about government deciding how much fat and alcohol you consume? There are immense beneficial health effects of a daily 30-minute aerobic exercise. Would you support government-mandated exercise?

You might argue that it’s none of government’s business how much fat, salt or alcohol a person consumes, even if it has adverse health care cost implications. I’d ask: Wouldn’t the same reasoning apply to helmet laws and proposed obesity laws?” —

Prostitutes Are Just Struggling Singers
by Laurie Roth

Isn’t New York getting a face-lift, though. Now a fill-in Governor will take over the reigns of the State of New York. Let’s just hope he can set a sound moral example! What is there about so many politicians that goes straight to narcissism and law-breaking? What is the code that was broken by Eliot Spitzer and what have we learned? Well, you know exactly how a Governor is going to sin and commit crimes... Full article

Why Does YOUR ISP Block My Newsletter to You?

Have you missed getting LOGON for a few months and then suddenly start getting it again? Wonder why? Have you emailed someone with a business matter (say advertising) and when you sent your ad copy the publisher didn't get it? Wonder why?

There are many other examples of "blocking, filtering, bouncing" I could mention but these two examples will get us started. I'll talk about other "last nerve" issues in future editions. Maybe I'll even get back to writing articles.

The answer to number one is many ISPs block email from publishers (and others in ecommerce) because they are saving bandwidth and because they don't approve of ecommerce in the form of newsletters - too many mailings for them to deal with and they believe all newsletters are s-p-a-m. So, even though you subscribed to my newsletter, the ISP you deal with, especially yahoo, AOL, Hotmail, Excite and others (including Google's Gmail) block thousands of email from getting through. Then a couple months later, they let those email through and block thousands of others. I DON'T like that but there is nothing I can do about it. At least I don't think there is and if you know what I can do to get all 225,000 newsletters through to my readers - PLEASE let me know. I will be eternally grateful.

The answer to number two is when you buy advertising from me and I email you and ask for your ad copy, the URL of the company you are promoting is blocked by your ISP and I never get your ad copy. That sucks! I call my customers (and make sure I get their number first thing) and we work it out. Many of my customers call their ISP and demand they STOP blocking their email. That's a good thing.

Some of you may be wondering how I know it's not MY ISP that is doing the blocking. Well, it's because I know my ISP's boss and we talk often. He answers my questions and answers the phone when I call. How acquainted are you with your ISP? Who is my man? Matt Tourtillott of Marketrends.net - Full Service ecommerce Unix based web hosting since 1998. Starting at $6.95 per month. See their website for details. Or call Matt toll fr-ee: (888) 203-9941 and tell him Bobbette from LOGON sent you.

You will never know how upset and wound-up I get at the arrogance of ISPs who block my newsletter or how I fight against it with them. They assure me that if their customer demands the email gets through to them, they will put it through - I doubt it. Any comments??
