Internet Marketing Failure Traps

The Real Reasons
Trina L.C. Sonnenberg

Why do so many people fail when it comes to the Internet marketing of their home business/network marketing opportunities? Is it really because of poor upline support, or lack of skill; or is it something more?

I think it is a lot more.

I'll be the first to admit that I am not one for attending training meetings, nor am I a presentation attendee. I'll wager that most others could say the same for themselves too. So, in this instance, I'd say that perhaps the problem really sits in a failure to connect between upline and downline members. Even the best in supportive uplines can only support those who make it to meetings.

What about lack of skill? What am I exactly referring to here? Well, I'll tell you. Grab a beverage and get comfortable.

It is no secret that most people promoting a business opportunity, through Internet marketing, haven't got a clue as to what they are doing. Look at what has happened to forums and business/social networking groups. If you're not getting slammed with cute, glittery sentiments, your messages fill up with really crappy sales copy.

Let's talk about writing for a few minutes. Virtually everyone thinks that they can write; those who know their limitations usually opt for pre-written ad copy, supplied by a third party. Both are bad practices. Using pre-written copy makes you just like everyone else. There is nothing unique about you, or what you promote. You are just passing along the same information as hundreds, if not thousands, of other people. Ho-hum.

Those who think they can write their own copy and do it poorly, well... They tend to make themselves look foolish, or uneducated. And I am further amazed at just how many people have forgotten the basic rules of grammar. How hard is it to hit the shift key to capitalize the letter I, or the first letter of a sentence?

Then people skills come into the scenario. How many people truly enjoy making phone calls to perfect strangers, presenting an opportunity, and hearing objections? Not many, right? Well, even fewer are actually good at it. When you don't like talking to people on the phone, it comes through your voice, and those you'd have join you aren't convinced of your sincerity. Who would you be more inclined to join... the person who presents like they're reading from a script in a monotone that hurts; or the person who presents with enthusiasm?

Network marketing is sales, regardless of what you've been led to believe, it is sales. Not everyone is cut out to sell either.

Here's the real culprit, in my humble opinion, that really kills it for home business hopefuls - Internet Marketing Gurus. Those who really work at building a network marketing business through the Internet, buy all kinds of stuff, from self-proclaimed gurus, to learn how it is done. Bless their misguided hearts.

Reading everything they can get their hands on and joining every affiliate program that comes along (most every thing that can be read comes with one attached to it), they become distracted from the original opportunity they came to the Internet to market.

Whether the information is purchased, or received for free, it doesn't matter. It becomes a distraction. There is almost always a pitch to promote the information you've just read, or to sign up for advertising programs, which in turn get folks to sign up for more stuff. This is an exercise in chasing one's tail.

While a person is sitting behind a desk, surfing for credits to display their ad to a bunch of people selling the same type of things, they should be working their business. While they are busting rump to sell the latest, greatest widget, ebook, or whatever, they should be working their business. So much time gets wasted. Time is money.

Stop the cycle! Target your efforts to those seeking what you've got, and work your business, not someone else's. The majority of advertising programs being pushed are targeted to those who are looking to sell, not to buy. Stop selling to sellers and start selling to buyers. You're not going to find buyers in the membership of free advertising programs. Think about it. Why are they members? To Advertise!

Hire people, who know what they're doing, to do the things you've not got the skill sets for. If you need a web designer, then hire one. If you need a writer; hire one. Need an SEO expert? Hire one! It's called outsourcing, and it makes the most sense. It saves a lot of time... MONEY. How much money are you not making while you read all the information on how to make it? How many hours have you devoted to learning, not earning?

Focus! Stop letting your desire to conquer the Internet, on your own, distract you from building your business. Keep in touch with your upline members, and your downline members, not to sell them a bunch of guru garbage, but to learn and share, and grow your business. Focus... on the path to your own success.

Focus on what you're good at and outsource the rest. How you advertise depends on what you are promoting. Identify your target market and go after it.

So how does an entreprenuer like me who has limited time and money market my business in a sea of marketing confusion? I am overwhelmed with trying to figure out how to market on a very tiny budget, but want to take advantage of the power of the internet? Blogs, RSS, Twitter, Feeds, Viral Marketing, and a hundred other terms just adds to the confusion. I am not sure where to go first, or which is the most effective advertising on the lowest possible cost.

It is just frustrating, as I want to succeed, but I am not sure how. I feel like I am wasting too much time trying to market the business and not enough on building the core business. I am like a hamster on a treadmill with no end in sight, as every online marketer is shouting the latest marketing trend on the web. I don't have the time to be chasing down every latest "new" way to market on the web. I just wish there was an easier way.

Frustrated Entreprenuer who wants to succeed, but am overwhelmed with too much marketing info on the web.

Wish there was a simple, easy solution to this problem.
