Is There an Internet Marketing Expert In the House?
Internet marketing seems to be a breeze for a select few. However, the majority of people find Internet marketing one of the biggest challenges of all time. The irony of this is that those who are challenged by Internet marketing, promoting home business opportunities, and the like, are the same folks who are making the select few rich. The select few... are the Internet marketing gurus.
Whether it is intentional, or not, they are actually using John Q. Average, his desire to succeed, against him.
How can that be? Let me explain...
John Q. Average has found a business opportunity to promote. He is using the Internet to market it, and isn't doing very well. So, he goes in search of anything that will help him learn about Internet marketing.
John spends hours and days, combing the Internet for information. He downloads all the free reports and software he can get his hands on. Then, he falls into the funnel. The whirlpool grabs him and he goes under.
You see, John started reading some of those reports, and learned that it would help him make some money, and build a list of prospects, if he would promote the information he just read, to others like himself. Wow! Make money, giving away information; for free! How hard can that be? Sadly, John jumped into the eddy of his own free will.
It applies to software too. Use this software! Don't forget to sign up for the affiliate program and use the software to promote the program. Make money! (Will this really help you promote your business opportunity? Maybe...
John buys all this stuff, and gets so caught up in the back end affiliate programs that come along with them, that he spends all his time promoting them, and not himself. And, he firmly believes he is benefiting from this, or will, somewhere down the line.
The biggest rub of all is the fact that John has switched horses out of the gate. Rather than marketing his business opportunity to those who are looking for one, he is promoting guru garbage to others marketing the same, or similar stuff. (Others caught in the very same funnel.)
John thinks he's found a gold mine of opportunities to promote his home business, but the only people he has accumulated to his list of contacts are other Internet marketers, not opportunity seekers.
How is this helping his business?
It's not.
Here's a thought... What if John would've spent his money on outsourcing his marketing to those who are experts in the field, instead of spending buckets on how-to materials and the latest, greatest widgets?
John spent a lot of money, buying stuff, and promoting stuff that wasn't his own. Money wasn't his only loss either. He lost a massive amount of time too. Time spent buying, downloading, reading, etc..
How many new prospects did this bring into his business? Probably none. How much money did he make promoting affiliate products? Maybe a little; certainly not what he's spent over time.
Now, he could have spent the same amount of money, or perhaps less, hiring someone to market his opportunity for him. At the very least, he could've had someone else do the mind-numbing chores of driving traffic to HIS web site for him. This would've at least given him the time to contact his prospects and work with them. Isn't that the goal of marketing a business opportunity; contacting and working with prospects and recruiting new business builders?
Yes, you do have to spend money to make money; but the key is not in how much you have to spend, but in where and how wisely you spend it.
Think about this... If you have no aptitude for preparing income taxes, do you spend money on how-tos, or do you hire an expert to prepare them for you?
