Songwriting Down Under was finally launched!

Yes and without a hitch too on MCTMG radio based in Nashville USA. The first guests were the songwriting duo 'Fifth Avenue' and they gave me some really good insights into what it's like being involved with a long term collaborative team.

I say a long term collaborative team because both Alun Firth and Jared Inkster have been a songwriting duo for about 14 years. That's a long time in anyones language.

One of the things that I found facinating was the process that they went through getting their songwriting ideas from head to paper.

Because they have been working together for so long they developed a real demarcation between who provides the musical/arrangement ideas (Alun) and the lyrical/melodic ideas (Jared).

Essentially they would get together and one would say to the other "well, what have you got?"

Obviously this particular chemistry between collaborators is something that is worked on over time however, once a process is perfected the task of writing songs becomes easier and the gathering and expanding of songwriting ideas becomes much more efficient.

Another thing that struck me was their ability to be non-attached to their ideas enough to leave something alone if it wasn't working straight away and go onto the next idea quickly. That doesnt mean that the original idea is trashed but left to one side for another time. I was very impressed by how they could do that.

That to me shows confidence in themselves and their abilities as songwriters.
