Let me start this by stating that I am a registered Republican and would give President Bush a 7-8 on a score of 1 to 10, but...
there are a few things with which I am not happy.
1. Why is he wanting to give legal status to the illegal aliens in the country? And by all means, let's make them eligible for government benefits and Social Security!!! Let's not think about the people born in the U.S. who have worked and paid to Social Security their entire life and are now having to choose between groceries, rent or Rx's.
I don't understand it.
Along these same lines, I saw in the newspaper this morning that a neighboring town to the city where I live is working on changing all the police forms to both English and Spanish. I don't believe it. Isn't English the official language of this country? If I moved to Mexico or Spain or Japan or Germany, wouldn't they expect me to learn their language? Why don't we demand people from other countries learn ours?
2. Manned flights to Mars?? Let us get real here. First, the people and children in the U.S.
who need a place to live, health care, education and Senior assistance should be helped. Or are we going to gather them all up and ship them to Mars and let them fend for themselves? Has Washington D.C. heard about priorities? Or have they all lost their minds? What happens to people when they are elected to the National Government? Are they required to attend a special school on how to disregard everything that gets them elected?
That's my two big issues with the President and the Congress. Now to another:
While all the Democrats are screaming we need a military man in the White House and denigrating President Bush for his service in the Texas Air National Guard, let them take time to discuss Senator Kerry and his Vietnam Service, like testifying for the North Vietnamese Communists and against his fellow Veterans. Don't believe it? Check out the Vietnam Veterans web site. Or let's discuss the military service of President Clinton. Oh, that's right, we can't; he doesn't have one!!
Maybe I should have titled this "Grandma is on her high horse again!!" I love this country and I am pround of every military man and woman who has served and sacrificed since the Minute Men. I hate to see how people are disregarding the history of this great Nation and are all concerning about only one thing -- me first!!
What do you think?

I believe that GW is recognizing a basic fact of our life today by recognizing that there are Mexican workers here doing work that no one else wants to. By giving them a vehicle for legal status, this gives the US a way to identify these folks and for them to pay taxes on their earnings. I would, however, exempt them from paying Social Security taxes since they should not be entitled to those benefits.
