A little further down the road

Monday, August 04, 2003
In my travels accross our two countries (Canada and United States of America) I am constantly having new and wonderful views of our marvelous landscape splashed across the windshield of my truck. I'm always in awe of the power involved in creating such beauty. Though I am but a miniscule dot on this landscape I find that from the confines of my drivers seat this is a picture that brings serenity and comfort to the mind and allows a respite with which to contemplate the events of the day.

I have just recently started writing down my thoughts and putting them in a place where others can view and comment on them. I had thought of putting them on my website but that would be a work creation tool and doesn't allow for responses other than e-mail which is becoming more of a pain everyday than it may be worth. Enter Lois (my wife) who publishes a newsletter and who is face to face with the problems of e-mail on a daily basis and the answer to this quandry was presented to me. Get a channel. Okay so what's that? Here's my interpretation of what she explained to me -

A channel is likened to a TV or Radio channel housed on the internet. These channels can be viewed on your browser or with the downloading and installation of a small but efficient reader program (Awasu) they can be brought to your desktop with little to no effort on your part. Lois illustrates that the operation is in three parts #1 the publisher (my wife for example), #2 the housing server (the place where her publications are stored) and #3 the subscriber (the person or people who view her publications). Through the use of a quaint little program she is able to create her publications (on the fly so to speak) edit and post them to her channel. At this point they are now available for her subscribers to view. This is where the Awasu program I mentioned comes to life and shines. At a frequency that you select this program polls the subscribed channels and looks for updates to the channels. When an update is found a message appears on your desktop advising you of the update. Now any of you who have dealt with news readers know that this technology has been around for awhile so what is so special here --- well being as you asked I'm going to tell you. Unlike news readers this little goodie that my wife and her friends at Quikonnex have been working on is a full featured system that allows you to communicate not only with text but with Audio, Video, HTML and others. It allows for responses to be posted with the articles, live chat and numerous additional ways to interact with your audience (subscribers). The biggest bang for my buck is that it is exceedingly easy to implement and use.

So after all this, here we are at a place where I am able to put forward my thoughts and on occasion pictures of where my livelihood takes me and where you have the opportunity to read, look and comment on them. The nicest part for me is that for those of you who wish to view my meanderings it's FREE -- that's what I said the reader program and the subscription to mine and any other channel is free to you.

So I hope you enjoy what you find here and feel free to comment on this or any other article you find.

May your day be a good one and well see you a little further down the road.

Hi Jimm,

I know from firsthand experience the wonderful landscapes you see in your travels. And with Quikonnex and the Home 4 Success channel, I'll be able to travel with you more and still keep up to date with my publishing schedule.
I think tracking your thoughts and experiences is a good idea. It'll give you your own little treasure chest to look back into at a later time. Being able to share ideas and software and products that help keep us all more connected is a great idea. Happy travels!
Lois
