Spontaneity is one of the keys to maintaining your creativity.
I came across a post titled "Great Way To Write A Song". It's all about using spontaneity as a way to generate songwriting ideas. It's very simple but (to me) it seems very effective.
I just had to share it with you all...
Essentially the writer of this post (he calls himself 'Tone') stumbled across this concept as a way of maintaining his creativity.
His blog is called "The Adventures Of Tone" (cool name) and even though it has just started I'm sure that there's more good stuff to come (I'll be keeping a lookout).
I liked his concept because of its simplicity.
I know songwriters that try to make their songs complicated thinking that it is the complexity of the piece and the musical execution of it that will enchant the listener. It may grab a small few but not the majority of the market that you are trying to reach.
If there is one thing that I have learnt from all of my 20+ years as a performing singer/sonwriter/musician is that the general music listening public don't want to think too much. They want their music to be served to them in a way that makes it as easy as possible to appreciate you.
Why provide aural barriers for your potential listeners? Keep your songs simple, honest, provide only one central idea for them to digest.
By keeping your songwriting process simple and spontaneous you will have more of a chance to produce songs that will catch the listeners attention in the shortest space of time.
