Let me tell you a true story.
Way back in 1998, Marcia and Phillip decided to expand their
family. However, due to Marcia's (insulin dependent) diabetes,
having a baby was too large of a risk. So, Marcia and Phillip
decided to expand their family through adoption.
They first decided to try domestic adoption in the USA. After
three years of waiting for an infant, they decided to change
their strategy, at the suggestion of the case worker, they
started a marvelous journey.
Marcia and Phillip decided to investigate what was required in
different countries. Out of the countries, Phillip just pulled
"How about Romania?" and asked Marcia.
Somehow, the idea sank deep in BOTH of their hearts. Much would
be required to accomplish. Lots of paperwork. Plans to be made.
Marcia and Phillip started out slow, at first. Filling out the
required paperwork seemed a daunting task. They piddled with
it. Then, a new act by the governor of South Carolina enacted a
law. They now had the opportunity to take advantage of a state
income tax break, but time was limited.
This pushed then forward to accomplish their true desires.
It took a year for all the paperwork to get to all the proper
places. For the paperwork to be forwarded to Romania. All
the hurdles to be crossed.
Phillip and Marcia decided to stay with host families while
staying in Bucharest and Timisora. Although not cheap, it was
one of the best decisions made.
Phillip and Marcia stayed most of the required two weeks in
Timisora. Our host, LaLa, cooked some traditional Romanian
food. She had a large house that accomodated us well.
Gabi (our adopted son) was one of the fortunate few that had a
foster family. We were able to meet this family and spent small
segements of time with Gabi there. The time increased each
visit. Phillip still gets occasional mail from Gabi's foster
sister.
We're so proud of Gabi ... he knew NO English. He tends to be a
bit strong willed, which can frustrate Marcia. In my opinion,
just a typical boy. But yet, very special. He's smart, but can
sometimes get moody or lazy.
Gabi is now in kindergarten. He has learned much and speaks
English well. He has ocassional problems with some phonic
sounds, but that's ok ... for now.
The story is long from over. It's a continuous one. This true
story is mine. I'm thankful to be experiencing it.
Adoption, for us, is the loving option.
Thank you for reading,
Phillip

For some reason, I had a feeling that this was your story even before the page loaded... I'm very much for adoption and do think it's one of the most loving choices any human being can make. I've been blessed with two beautiful boys, yet at one point in our lives, my husband and I thought seriously about adopting a little girl. Some circumstances beyond our control changed our lives, so we never had a chance to pursue this dream. I'm sharing this with you because I truly admire people who adopt. It's a decision that only comes from true unconditional love. Congratulations! Enjoy Gabi, and your wife. Thank you much for sharing! God Bless...
