Setbacks are part of life so you might as well get used to it.
For the past few weeks I have not been the productive singer/songwriter that I normally am. It has been a while since I have written a song.
Here's how I got myself back onto the wagon again. By just writing...
As human beings we all have highs and lows, peaks and troughs, good days and bad days. The most important thing is that you realise that the good and the bad is all part of being human.
Too much of a good thing will eventually spoil it. Sometimes you need the bad to appreciate the good and vice versa (remember there's always the chance to write a song about your experiences).
For a number of weeks I have been wanting to write more but I had paralysed myself. I distracted myself with one or two new projects. Spent too much time web surfing rather than doing something constructive (even if the constructive thing to do is to do nothing).
It took me a while to catch myself out but once I did I had some questions to answer. How can someone as motivated as myself get into this situation?
Well, I simply stopped looking at my goals and stopped trusting myself. Once I did that my inner voice started having a field day, filling my mind full of procrastination and doubt.
I alone had let this happen.
I am not going to go into any reasons behind why I let this happen but I am using this article to break myself out of this writers block.
I mean for heaven sakes I have written an eReport called "11 Ways To Eliminate Writers Block FOREVER!" and I am not taking my own advice. Just thinking about that makes me laugh :)
What it does show me is that the mind is an extremely powerful friend or foe, it just depends on what you allow your mind to be. I am so very glad that I am now friends with my mindagain. As I am writing this I can feel the urge to write again.
It's a great feeling to take my own advice. Just write and see what happens.
Until next time, happy writing,
