Search Engine Rankings and Optimization

Search Engine Ranking Made Simple
Tom Bishop

Don't avoid the significance of search engine ranking. It is a concept you need to learn as much about as you can. Your web site deserves the best. Give it such.

People are naturally drawn to your web site more readily if you utilize search engine optimization. A great deal of individuals use search engines on a regular basis. Accept this simple fact of Internet life and let it work for you.

You do not have to be highly technical to increase your ranking with search engines. All it takes is a little knowledge and a certain amount of common "computer" sense. Begin with your homepage and work from there.

Your homepage sets the stage for your entire site. The most important keywords and/or phrases should always appear on the title bar of your homepage. Start things off properly from the get go!

Now look at your links and the corresponding title bars. They should all include relevant keywords but keep them to a minimum of six words (or less would be even better) in order to maintain clarity and simplicity for visitors.

Website content is another consideration. Content is a great deal more important than fancy pictures or graphics. And content means text. Text needs keywords to be effective so choose your keyword very carefully! There is no room for sloppiness after all!

Text is what customers/searchers use on search engines to find particular sites. Make your text more valuable than your graphics and people will flock to see what you are selling. This is an important lesson to learn.

The text at your site is HTML if you can highlight words easily. If you are unable to perform this simple task then check with your webmaster and then make the necessary changes.

Now we must look at meta tags. Contrary to popular "Internet" belief, meta tags are not the end all and be all of search engine rankings.

Meta tags are not terribly effective for reaching high search engine ranking. They are a very easy code, nothing more. But adding them into your site cannot hurt.

Go to your browser's menu bar, click on "view" and then "source." This will reveal a window and behind that window is the access code for your web site. This will in turn let you know if meta tags were used in the making of your site or not. It's always good to know, one way or another.

Are you linked up with sites that can support your progress in cyberspace? Find out by visiting a search engine yourself and punching in "free link popularity check." This search should bring up a number of different sites where you can find out how "popular" you really are (or at least your web site is!). This should serve to get you on the right track.

Internet strategies only work well if the people behind them have a strong desire to move up the search engine ranks. Keep trying and success will be yours!
