MySpace - A Great Community Builder

The internet is the greatest social networking tool - use its power!

The MySpace phenomenon has taken over the internet world so much that News Corp purchased it for $580 million recently (wow, thats a lot of money) and created a record company to capitalise on its amazing popularity.

Using MySpace is a great way to start creating your own indie music community. Check it out....

I must admit I have been a little slow on the uptake with MySpace and this whole online social networking thing however this article I found titled "Online, local bands can find worldwide fans" convinced me rather quickly that I should get a move on and use this technology to my advantage.

Individuals, indie music artists, indie music bands and other music businesses are using MySpace to expand their sphere of influence and create communities of fans, business partners, clients and like minded people.

The article deals specifically with the experiences of artists and bands in the city of Wichita, Kansas but this could be experienced anywhere in the world as long as there are indie bands and artists with a computer, some time and a willingness to reach out and network with people online.

I have MySpace pages for myself and dedicated to my old funk band "Orangutang". It was a test page but even with no effort I had people listening to tracks and adding me onto different lists. I must say that using MySpace is a lot of fun. The forums and groups that you can access on the network are amazing as well.

Im looking at my Corey Stewart page and it says that there are only 43,798,911 people on the network. Just think, if only 1% of that network were turned onto your music and became your fans you would have almost 44,000 extra fans to contend with (4,400 fans if 0.1% were turned on).

Man, I have got to start ramping this up for myself.

My personal MySpace page is here and my "Orangutang" MySpace page is here

Thanks oggyb,

My experience with MySpace is similar to yours I think but it is worth the thought isnt it? All those people using the service and some of them can (and will) be turned on by your music.

Thank you for your kind words about my blogs I hope you continue to find them useful.

Hi there.

What little there is in my experience of myspace I think you're right about the possibilities. I know a few people on mysoace in my line of activity (composition) who have made a name for themselves in this way.

Good blog.
