Another LifeWave Debut! HAWAIIAN DESIGN OUTRIGGER CANOE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RACES MAUI COUNTY HAWAIIAN CANOE RACING ASSOCIATION HOSTS The HCRA State Championship (Maui - Hanakao`o), AUGUST 6th, 2005 Two Maui-based Canoe Club crews take home Silver Medals in State Championships – with Patches on!
Paul Doty, of Maui Hawaii, with a Silver Medal for Senior Master’s race, sat stroke for Na Kai Ewalu Canoe Club and is a waterman extraordinaire and former LaCrosse Coach The Senior Master Men’s crew for the Na Kai Ewalu Canoe Club, who took Bronze last year, took the Silver Medal in the Hawaii State Championship races Saturday Aug 6, 2005. Way to go! Juliet, Paul Doty’s wife, and LifeWave distributor had the crew patched. They paddled a hard and fast race coming in at 3 minutes 48 seconds to take second place in the 1 mile sprint Championship race under a gorgeous blue Maui sky in Lahaina. Paul Doty, who sat stroke (seat #1) for Na Kai Ewalu , summed it up nicely when they got back to shore: “Even though I’m done with the race, I could go out again! I felt so strong! Those patches really work - and we had only a week to practice with them, imagine what we could do over a whole season using them. Congratulations everyone!! “ The Mixed Master’s crew (men and women) in the Hawaiian Canoe Club, with LifeWave distributor, Kawika Davidson, in seat #3, had patches on, plus on half the crew. And they were ready to go! Pounding neck and neck to the finish line, only 2 tenths of a second off, they took a stellar Silver Medal helping the Hawaiian Club to win it’s fifth consecutive state crown, dominating the Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association Sate Championship Regatta. Hawaiian won a regatta-high seven races and amassed 353 points in the 37 races. (O’ahu’s Kailua Club a distant second at 275 points.) It was the largest margin of victory in the history of the state regatta. More than 3,000 paddlers representing 56 clubs participated in yesterday's day-long regatta. Kavika said with a big beaming smile, “That was the most awesome race of the season! It was the fastest time we had all year! I’m exhausted but exhilarated, we were really hammering at the end. “ Kavika further commented: “The patches seem to work really well when I’m at the point of breaking, I don’t know how to explain it but it works best when I’m ready to hit that wall – I don’t, I can just keep going!” He broke his own record for a personal best and shaved off a full 3 minutes in his time trial – wearing the patches.
