We had a local radio station promoting a 'singles night out' at a local Kroger grocery store. There were some preplanned activities, some samples of cheese and small samples of wine.
As I entered the door, I had NO idea of WHAT to expect. There were greeters at the front door, asking if you were there for the singles night, to which I replied yes. They showed me a list of famous couples and a list of male counterparts to choose from. I chose Romeo. You were supposed to mingle to find the 'match' of that famous couple ... yes, I met Juliet ... several of them :) After chatting with most of them, nothing seemed to 'click'.
As I was watching some of the games from afar, I was scanning the ladies, hoping 'something' would spark a conversation. At this time in my life, I had a FULL beard and mustache. Just imagine THAT :)
Marcia was pushing a grocery cart as she walked by. Something told me 'speak to her'. "Her?" I asked back. Yes, speak to HER.
So, I mustered up the courage to ask, "Are you here to buy groceries, or are you here for the singles night out?" She said, "Well, actually, I'm here for BOTH." I then pressed my luck and asked her out to supper the next evening, at a local resturant. She kindly agreed :) I asked her where I could pick her up from, and she told me her apartment name and which bulding & apartment number.
Being unfamiliar with that part of town, I asked if I could follow her home ... so I could find it the next evening. She seemed to hestitate a bit a first ... sensing that, I assured her I wasn't an axe murderer :) This seemd to break the ice even further ... her face broke into a warm smile ... and she let out a good chuckle.
And the rest of the story is STILL developing :)
