Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Safety

D.C. Metro Subway in the Spotlight
By, Trina L.C. Sonnenberg Copyright 2010

Recently, a good friend of mine decided that he would begin his retirement from DC Metro, writing about his 27 year experience with the inner workings of the system. He has created a blog in which he posts chapters of a book he is writing, titled, 'Metro The 51st State.'

In light of all the press the subway system has gotten since the fatal crash a couple of years ago, my friend has chosen to write about what really goes on behind the scenes. It may make you not want to ride a subway train again, at least not in D.C..

Regardless of your bent on trains, planes and automobiles, it makes interesting reading. It is very demonstrative of how problems involving public safety can and are being ignored in the name of keeping things moving. His story reveals how public safety is not a primary concern, even after people have lost their lives, due to their [Metro administrators] incompetence in dealing with health and safety issues that have been presented to them by their own employees and the public at large.

Metro employees are killed on the job, and trains crash because nothing has been done to insure that they won't. People have died just because Metro does not respond to incidents that require immediate attention.

For the full story, I encourage you to read through the documents posted on this blog; especially if you ride the subway in Washington D.C..

Also check out this link for more Metro info.

Read a Good Book?

I did not love you when we spoke our vows.
I did not love you then and I do not love you now.
I was in love with a different man;
I could not have him then, so I settled for the one I can.
I feared going through life alone;
So I set down roots and did not roam.
Ironically, isolation was mine,
With you life was a bitter wine.
The longer I stayed the more alone I became.
The more I longed to take his name.
But it was yours I had.
Life was bad.
I knew not who to blame.
I am sorry that I married you,
When my love was never true.
My true love is now mine.
My life is truly divine.
My love for him is long and true.
Something I never felt for you.
Forever and Always...

Write What You Know
By, Trina L.C. Sonnenberg Copyright 2010
Internet Advertising Solutions

When writing anything, the first thing most writers are told is to write what you know. If that isn't a brain drain, I don't know what is. One may spend a lot of time trying to come up with a topic they know about, but few realize that they know more than they think they do.

I had a book in my head for years, but I did not write it. Why? I lacked confidence in myself, no matter how much praise I received for my talent. I made excuses for years as to why I couldn't write this book, even though I knew the story I wanted to tell, inside out. I lived it.

The only thing that was accomplished by my putting off the task was that the story got longer.

One day, I just sat down and started writing. I wrote long hand in a notebook and by the time it was full, I had discovered that writing this book was not as difficult as I thought it would be. The words just spilled onto the pages, and I took it to my computer to transcribe and edit.

In April, I published it myself. Since doing that, I have been promoting it everywhere I can. You see, the down side to self publishing is the marketing. You get to do it all yourself.

The story is my memoir. Why did I write it? Well, for years I have had friends tell me that my life has been interesting enough to make into a screen play. I decided to write a book instead.

What makes my life so interesting? I fell in love 30 years ago and never gave up on that love. Even though I did not marry my true love back then, and married another, I survived my abusive marriages and ended up with my one true love 17 years after falling in love with him.

I have survived many tragic events in my life and now live the life of my dreams. The life I dreamed of 30 years ago has been mine for the last 13 years.

My message to others is that if I can do it, you can too! Forever and Always... A True Love Story Check it out!

A Memoir by, Trina L.C. Sonnenberg

A true story of faith, hope, love and survival. This story opens with the meeting and love at first sight attraction of Trampus and Trii (tree) and follows Trii on her 30 year adventure to realize that love and all its splendor.

Hers is a tale of strength to over come the challenges she is faced with in life, to find true happiness with her beloved. Trii is a survivor of rape, sexual and physical abuse, as well as physiological abuse. She demonstrates the true power of the Law of Attraction and how life changing it can be; going from a life of misery to that of success by willing it to be. Trii's life is a testament to the power we each have inside ourselves to change the circumstances of life.

The Importance of Personal Development

Friday, February 19, 2010
I have always been interested in what makes people tick. Anyone who knows me, knows this about me. I once seriously considered going to college to study psychology, but life got in the way, and I got married instead. The irony of it is that had I gone to school, I wouldn't have married the man I did because of the man he is. In other words, I would not have had to learn the hard way, that he was not the right person for me. I probably could have figured it out a lot quicker than I did.

Sports Photog Extrodinaire Charles Martin Conlon

Monday, December 21, 2009
Charles M. Conlon: born 1868 became the world's most famous baseball photographer quite by accident. By profession, he was a proof-reader for the New York based, World Telegram. Prior to 1904, Conlon had been an amateur photographer, taking photographs as a hobby. The story goes something like this: Conlon made the acquaintance of a man by the name of John B. Foster, who was, at the time, a sports writer and editor at the Spaulding Times.

While in a pinch for some photographs for an upcoming issue, Mr. Foster asked Conlon if he'd take some snapshots for him of ball players. (Mr. Foster was privy to Conlons' passion for taking pictures.) His photographic career had been launched. Conlon continued taking baseball photographs until 1942.

From 1904 until 1942, Conlon Conlon took photographs of almost every famous major league ball player including:

Babe Ruth
Lou Gehrig
Ty Cobb
Joe Jackson
John McGraw

His most famous photograph was taken as Ty Cobb slid hard into third, knocking over the baseman, Jimmy Austin. It is still considered by many to be the best baseball action shot ever taken. Today his work is fetching top dollar at auction houses. In 1996, Christie's, sold hundreds of Conlon's prints. They can be found on eBay as well, but they're expensive there too. Smaller prints are going for nothing less than $100.00, with others taking thousands to purchase.

Pitcher, Christy Mathewson was Conlon's first subject, but McGraw was, "the greatest of them all..." To quote Conlon Conlon: "While on the subject of those heroes, Matty was the best pitcher, Wagner the best infielder, Cobb the outfield marvel. Ruth was a grand guy, always obliging. But strictly a specialist in the home run. Not a Cobb all around. Chase was the greatest first baseman."

What made his first photographs so striking was the fact that he would get on the field to take them. Following a Giants, Cubs game and an argument over whether the umpire called a play correctly or not, using Conlon's shot of the play as evidence, the power's that be forever banned cameramen from the field once the game had commenced. Photographers would have to take their shots from the sidelines, or stay at home. [Read More!]
