by Karon Thackston © 2005 http://www.copywritingcourse.com Only about 20% of your copy is going to get read. The rest will simply be scanned. I'm sure you've heard the statistic before. It's nothing new. While it might sound frightening or frustrating, it's a fact of copywriting life. So what do you do next? Give up? What difference does it make if only about 20% will be read anyway?
It makes a world of difference. Especially if you understand that there are some sections of your copy that are practically guaranteed to get read. If you know what these are and work to reinforce them, you'll see your conversions increase dramatically whether your copy is geared toward online or offline promotions. HEADLINES Headlines have always been and will always be the most important section in any copy. They are the first thing to get read and have the greatest impact on whether any of the other copy gets read. Those stories you've seen floating around the Internet about marketers who have made minute changes to a headline and tripled their conversion rates are true. It happens all the time. In fact, it's happened to me. Headlines and sub-headlines can guide your visitors to read deeper into your copy. Pay a lot of attention to your headline. It's the powerhouse of your copy.
CAPTIONS Captions started with newspaper journalists. When they would run a picture with a story, they would add a few words underneath to explain what or who the picture was of. People got into the habit of looking for the captions in order to relate the importance of the image with the information they were receiving. This still holds true. Captions in advertising pieces are highly read. Don't waste the space! FIRST SENTENCES When you scan something -- an article, a book, a newspaper, a magazine, a website -- what do you read? Almost everyone reads the first sentence of each paragraph. These sentences are vitally important in order to get your potential customers interested enough to keep reading. If you create exceptional first sentences, one of two things will happen. One: The prospect will be more likely to continue reading the copy. Two: The first sentences in each paragraph will be enough to convince him/her to buy. FIRST IN BULLETED LIST Just as with the first sentence in each paragraph, people also almost always read the first entry in a bulleted list. If it hits home, they might keep reading. But, knowing that you have their attention for at least one second, always make sure your first bullet point is extremely powerful and enticing. PS's Writing a direct mail or Web sales letter? The PS is another hot spot. Take advantage of this real estate. Repeat offers, remind readers of bonuses, reinforce guarantees or recap limited-time offers. This section is the final pitch before your reader either acts or trashes your copy so make it count. Have you noticed something about these five sections? Why do you think they are virtually guaranteed to get read in any piece of copy? They are unusual. They are limited. They stand out. They are eye-catching. You only have a limited number of headlines and sub-heads in copy. They are almost always offset by bolding or underlining so they easily catch the eye of the reader. Captions only appear when there are images. They do not appear all throughout the copy. First sentences are also rare. Only one sentence in each paragraph can be the first one. This tells the reader to keep going or jump to another section that might be of more interest. First entries in bulleted lists are unusually formatted and catch the eye of the reader. PS's? There's only one, and since it's the last thing on the page, most often, it stands out too. These rare elements give you five guaranteed shots at building curiosity, promoting benefits, generating interest and closing sales. Fact is, if you are going to use the Internet as part of your marketing mix, use it effectively. People are constantly asking the question, "What do I need to do to improve my marketing efforts?" A huge part of the answer can be found in whether or not your website is a tool for building your database. A fact many people choose to ignore. I’m not talking about simply having a "Contact Us" form on your site. Most people are not going to take the time to fill this out. I don’t care how pretty a site is. People will leave you their information if you create unbelievable value and benefit for them. Think of it this way, your site is a place to direct people in order for you to provide information that encourages them to leave you their contact information. If they took time to visit your site, chances are they are interested in what you offer. Statistics prove most visitors to your site won’t return and will soon forget about who you are unless you keep in touch with them. In order to do this you have to capture their contact information. The Click Fraud Problem
(c) Christos Varsamis Click fraud has become a major problem for online marketers. If you participate on Google adwords campaigns or Overture, you must already pay a lot for your campaigns. What is click fraud? Click fraud is the deliberate clicks to PPC search engine ads for completely other reasons than expressing interest for buying the related products or services. Overture defines click fraud as clicks arising for reasons other than the good-faith intention of an Internet user to visit a web site to purchase goods or services or to obtain information. Google defines click fraud, or invalid clicks, as any method used to artificially and/or maliciously generate clicks or page impressions. In simple words, Click fraud means that someone is cheating you and that you pay too much for your pay per click campaigns. Who is doing that? Three main groups click on pay per click ads, without real interest in the offered goods: People who joined Google AdSense or other per click affiliate programs click on the ads on their own web site to make a little income. Often, these people cooperate with other webmasters to click on each other's ads. Some unethical companies click on the pay per click ads of competitors to drive up their advertising costs. Companies (often in India, Russia and China) hire people who are paid to click on ads. Google and other search networks provide refunds to advertisers when click fraud has been discovered. Google and Overture employ "fraud squads," or teams of people dedicated to fighting click schemes. But at least two marketing executives say such countermeasures are missing fraudulent clicks that are responsible for between 5 percent and 20 percent of advertising fees paid to all search networks. This is a huge problem. There is no 'pay per click' Company denying that click fraud exists. Web analytics companies estimates that the 50% of all click activity is fraudulent. This means that your pay per click marketing activities are half effective as they could be because of click fraud. Overture spokeswoman Jennifer Stephens refutes that estimate, saying that the numbers likely represent acts of fraud that are ultimately caught. She added that Overture filters most fraudulent clicks with the best antifraud system in the industry, which combines technology and human analysis. Most advertisers are aware of the click-fraud issue but have not delved into it because of the technical complexities involved. Others are concerned that they could jeopardize their relationships with the powerful search networks if they complain too loudly. One of the best ways to eliminate click fraud is using anti click fraud services such as ppctrax (www.ppctrax.com). They provide services like the below: * IP address capture. * IP address geographic Location. * User Agent (browser, bot etc.) See exactly what keywords are generating your clicks Date and Time stamp System detects sudden click spikes from one or more IP addresses Real-time email alerts at 80% and 100% of your account's transaction utilization IP address history - alert you to prior offenders Another similar service is 'who is clicking who': http://www.whosclickingwho.com. *** From The Publishers Desk *** I belong to a couple of article directories that are usually distributed via email. Here are a few of my findings and ponderings. I'll be the first one to admit .... I tend to get VERY picky over WHAT I choose to publish. The gurus teach us that writing articles is one of the best free ways to advertise our site. This is generally true, because publishers ARE looking for QUALITY content to publish as they see fit. However, there seems to be an influx of articles that seem to be missing some key elements. 1.) SOME articles have NO resource box (this is where the author should put in a small bit about himself and a link to their website). Generally, these should be about 5 to 6 lines in length. 2.) SOME articles are NOT formatted correctly. The text is sometimes hard to read, especially in email. 3.) Some have grammatical or spacing errors. These are easy enough to fix, however, some articles require you to do NO editing whatsoever. Some points to consider when writing: A.) Start reading the articles writen by the well known names Willie Crawford, Stone Evans, Kathleen Gage, and others. Notice their style, how their points are presented, how easily the flow of writing is noticed. B.) It's ok to be new at writing ...I'd even be so bold to suggest the new author request feedback from publishers ... publishers recognize effort and are usually willing to offer constructive comments & suggestions :) Ponderings: As I search for new articles I can use for my channel or my ezine, I wonder about the resource box and the way those are written. I've actually seen some pretty obvious claims IN the resource box. I may even click the link, just out of curiosity. Since I am a publisher, and since I DO sell advertising space, Am I responsible for WHAT the author has written IN his resource box? What about the website that the link in the resource box leads to? Would I be reponsible IF the website doesn't have the proper disclaimers ... for the sales copy on that website, IF it had blatant or implied claims? I think there's a strong possibility I would be. Handwriting can speak volumes about who we actually ARE...our passions, fortes, weaknesses and personality traits. Some people say that handwriting CAN be the best non-discriminatory assessment measure.
It's interesting to note that no gender, age or person's origin is needed. These handwriting assessments have been used to assist companies in finding the best executives, cops tracking down legal offenders and letting sweethearts know if they have really found their true loves.

Graphology is a specialized social science. It's used to get more candid and spontaneous information about prospective job candidates. Watch out, it's not impossible to imagine internet companies asking for a handwritten application.
The premise here is that integrity is valuable, but often remains un-checked. Seemingly, with just the stroke of a pen..... analysts can tap into a person's thought process AND emotional state, in order to learn about that person's achievements and communication skills. That's amazing! This is sometimes referred to as "brainwriting."
These assessments have been described as the graphic manifestation of a person's thought patterns and behaviors. It can give us a glimpse into the sub-conscious mind. Like that dashboard in your car, it's NOT bad or good. It just informs!
In Europe, graphology is accepted as a science for hiring candidates. It's a replacement to intrusive and relatively unreliable, personality and character testing. Supervision is a main concern here. Sales people remain UN-Supervised in the field, so character is a CRITICAL issue. Some people believe that handwriting analysis saves time, money and morale because these companies believe that the right people have been selected for their business relationships. People may temporarily change over time BUT....their traits basically remain the same.
Gee, I bet you thought you just scribbled! Business systems are In search of balance because Un-ethical Conduct has recently been bursting AT the seams. Creative solutions appear to BE rising in popularity! Selection of business partners is NO longer so CLINICAL. Surely, we ARE the sum of our parts! How's YOUR handwriting? Go ahead: Smile!

Family support makes life easier when we decide to work at home. However, sometimes it just doesn't come easily with our e-territory. The Recipe for Saving Your Sanity......... Earning family respect for what you do can be a real chore. Mutual understanding, patience and cooperation will always be a tremendous help. Sanity and Success don't come without a time price-tag. We invest in whatever it takes in time, effort and cash, to make these things and our family lives, work-out for us. What does this require? It's different for each of us because our income needs vary. Single parents with 2 or 3 kids, might not have the income that double wage-earners bring to the e-table. We really can't judge a book by an e-cover when it boils down to earning a living.
If you've been around e-sales a while, you probably already know how to maintain and manage your primary accounts. If you're one of those salespeople who earn a living with e-skills, be on the look-out for the shoemaker's kids who go around without shoes. Neglect, drive and dedication are very different things. Take your "honey" to lunch - schedule key dates in advance. EACH year mark key dates to remember. You'll hardly ever have complete control over time, but your aim here is shooting for a "quality" of acceptable family time and in some instances, this can BE exceptional due to the flexibility that our e-sales-life, permits. Long working hours are not easy on anybody, no matter what kind of work you do. IS there such a thing as quality time if you're an internet home-worker? Quantity is probably what counts the most. If your financial life dictates that you must give your "all" for the company, do the best you can, to give equal time and quality commitments to your family. As a business advisor I work with clients helping them gain visibility within their market. Without sounding too arrogant or bold I can safely say I have earned the right to do this. The primary reason is because the very strategies I teach my clients are the same tactics that have afforded me a great deal of visibility within my market. It is this visibility that sets me apart from my competition. There is incredible power and profit that comes from visibility. The more visible you are to your market the more you will be the person a client calls when the need for your product or service arises. Hands down - visibility is a primary aspect of one's marketing. Unfortunately, many people either don't know how to gain the visibility that sets them apart from their competition or they aren't willing to put the time into creating it. Worse yet, they may have someone who is doing their marketing that really doesn't know how to position the client for maximum exposure. So how do you go about gaining massive visibility within your market? Actually, it is very simple. Not necessarily easy, but it is a simple formula. It is all about developing systems and being very strategic in your approach to implementation of the system. Gaining recognition is about becoming "famous" to a targeted group of people. By famous, I am not referring to world renowned. Fame in the context I am using simply means being visible to those people who make the decision to utilize and purchase your products or services. It is in this fame, or name recognition, the process of selling becomes one of being a problem solver rather than an order taker. Gaining visibility within your market does not have to be an expensive proposition. On the other hand there will be occasions you will need to make strategically planned financial investments. Many uninformed individuals assume advertising is all that's necessary to market their business and gain name recognition. Advertising is only a part of your marketing, not marketing in and of itself. Unfortunately, many people waste countless dollars on ineffective ad campaigns because they were led to believe an ad was all it took for them. This happens both offline and online. Prior to the use of the Internet in marketing campaigns, I saw person after person taken advantage of by a slick account executive who offered some amazing ad campaign. A campaign that was just too tempting for the uninformed client to resist. Often, the campaigns were so cheap that the client simply signed on without any research. Unfortunately, many of the campaigns were very ineffective. The primary reason was because there were so many missing elements including who the target market was. Now that the Internet has become an integral part of many marketing campaigns, the same thing is happening online as has been happening for decades offline. People are buying into campaigns without doing the necessary research. To succeed, you must take a holistic approach to positioning you and your company. Again, one way to enjoy success is to gain visibility within your market. However, before you will obtain the name recognition you desire you have to lay a solid foundation. The place to begin is to know your market. A few things to consider are. Who do you want to sell to and who would buy your product or service? Gender Age Income level Industries or professions Education Interests and hobbies Geographic region Association involvement Lifestyle From there you have a number of avenues you can take to gain visibility. One of the most effective is to host a complimentary informational event, seminar or workshop. It positions you as an expert and you are a resource before you are a vendor. Events can have as few as 6 people in a workshop on up to a 500 person event. Many people miss this incredible opportunity because they don't think they can present. My response is you are presenting all the time. It's just a matter of what you are presenting. With the power of the Internet you can set up a system that allows you to continually host information seminars and costs very little to market. All your marketing efforts should lead people back to your website. A website is really intended to be more than just an electronic brochure. It should be something that gets people to take action, provides great information, is updated on a regular basis and is something people can use as a resource. Set up you web site so that people can leave their contact information. Offer something of value to your market such as a free report, an Ezine, an Ebook or anything that creates a compelling enough reason for viewers to give you their information. This can be done with an autoresponder. The purpose of the autoresponder is to automate the process and develop a database for future marketing efforts. Many people do nothing at all to get contact information from the dozens, hundreds or thousands of visitors to their sites. This is simply missed opportunity. Develop a list of local media contacts you can send a press release to if the event is open to the public. Find out what their criteria for sending in a release via email is. Many will not open any attachments. So if you are sending an attached document to the media there is a good chance they won't read it. Make sure the release is short and to the point. Simply put, the Who, What, When, Where and Why. Many releases do not get read or published due to being poorly written or too lengthy. Write articles with a topic that is connected to the information seminar you are offering. Send these out to various locations online such as Yahoo Groups. Add a compelling byline that encourages people to visit your website. You can also send the article out in an Ezine format to those people who are in your database. This is the very reason you want to be able to collect people's contact information from your website. If they leave you their contact information chances are very good they are interested in you and your products, services and various offerings. So as not to miss those folks who are not in your online database you will be well served to also send out a direct mail piece. This piece is used to announce the event and should encourage people to visit your website to sign up for the event. If you are strategic marketing the event you will most like gain some free publicity for yourself and your company. The day of the presentation you absolutely must make sure people have a stellar experience. This would include the actual presentation being one that is so content filled that even if people never buy a thing from you they feel they have received incredible value. Within 24 hours of the session send out a thank you letter highlighting key points you made during your presentation. Depending on your market the letter can be sent out via email. Mention in the letter that you would enjoy speaking at either their company or an association meeting. You will be amazed at how many opportunities this can generate if your initial presentation exceeded expectations. Your success with this process will be determined by how consistent you are in keeping your name if front of your market. I have witnessed time and again people who will try this method once, get busy with other things and then let the system drop. What an absolute waste. With the system outlined I have successfully promoted events in my market that have cost me less than $50 in marketing costs and realized a return of tens of thousands of dollars in revenue from subsequent sales. However, I have been using this system for years and am very consistent in my process. As you consider the things you can do to increase your visibility and who you may choose to work with on your marketing, a couple of questions you need to ask are, "Am I willing to put the right systems in place to gain the result I want?" and "Does the person I am considering to help me market my business know how to market their own business?" About me - I have been in nursing for over 20 years. How To Organize Your Marketing (c) Charlie Cook www.marketingforsuccess.com "I hate sales pitches!" You may have felt this way yourself or heard others say it. If it's such a common response, what's the best way to organize your marketing to attract new clients and customers?
While getting all aspects of your marketing right can be complicated, the simple truth is that you can attract many more clients and be far more successful by doing just one thing. To get the attention of your prospects and gain their trust and their business, base your marketing on the way your prospects make buying decisions. Just as a sweater needs to fit its owner, your marketing needs to fit your prospects. Mirror Your Prospects' Decision Making Patterns How do your prospects make purchasing decisions? A research study by Enquiro and Marketing Sherpa found that 86% of Internet users begin a search using Google. Of these, 63% scan the search results, looking for key phrases in order to determine which sites to visit. If your target market doesn't find the key phrase they are looking for, they won't contact you. It doesn't matter how long you've been in business or how happy your clients are; if your marketing message doesn't match the language your prospects use, tens of thousands of people will never find you. This is true even if they need and want your products and services. First, If you want people to respond to your search engine listing, billboard ad, radio spot or business card, the handful of words you use need to grab their attention. Invest the time and effort to create a brilliant marketing message. Tailor it to your prospects' problems and concerns and they'll take notice. Once you have your prospects' attention, you may want them to buy your products and services right away, but this is not realistic. While a small percentage of prospects with an urgent need may buy on first contact with you or your website, the vast majority won't. The research by Enquiro and Marketing Sherpa found over 80% of people looking to buy research a purchase for a period of time ranging from one week to four months, with 54% taking one to three months. You may be doing a great job at getting attention, but if you're not motivating prospects to contact you, your business is leaking leads. You could be missing more than 80% of potential buyers. Does your company have a web site? How many visitors stop by your site each month? How many of these contact you? If you're a small business you could easily be attracting 3,000 to 20,000 people a month. Typically, 10 to 30% of these people can be motivated to contact you, amounting to 300 to 6,000 leads per month. You may be attracting more leads than you need. Make sure you capture them so you can market to them. One of my coaching clients had a web site that was attracting 40,000 visitors each month. With a site this popular, he should have been able to generate 8,000 leads each month. All he needed was to structure his web site to prompt prospects to give him their contact information. Instead he was getting an average of only 10 leads each month. Second, Motivate prospects to give you their contact information. Give them a reason to contact you. I give away a free marketing guide that prompts almost a thousand people a month to give me their contact information. Once you have your prospects' contact information, follow up regularly to further establish the credibility of your firm and clarify the value of your products and services. Moving Prospects to Client or Customer Status When you provide your services or develop your products you shape them to fit your prospects' wants and needs. Similarly your marketing needs to be shaped to fit your prospects' buying patterns. I was blessed to receive a new book for Christmas entitled "The 8th Habit: From Effectiveness To Greatness", written by Stephen Covey I found this quote inside: "In a few hundred years, when the history of our time is written from a long-term perspective, it is likely that the most important event those historians will see is not technology, not the internet, not e-commerce. It is an unprecendented change in the human condition. For the first time---literally--- substantial and rapidly growing numbers of people have choices. For the first time, they will have to manage themselves." "And society is totally unprepared for it." Peter Drucker At first reading, I agreed with this .... however, I'm of the opinion we have ALWAYS had CHOICES ... and continue to have choices ...some people just can't seem to decide whom the BOSS "really" is ..... lack of action may trigger a degree of control (by someone that may NOT have our best interests at heart) of part of our lives A large portion of our population has seemingly (and, willingly) handed control over to someone else, to some governing body (be it state, local, or federal) instead of handing the control over to the HIGHEST governing body, The supreme being, as we CHOOSE to recognize him. We have handed this control over to a governing body, someone or something that we are NOT assured will be there tommorow .... why are we SO willing to hand over this control to someone else? Who's seemingly (and convincingly) telling us that these results WILL be better than our own God given gifts and rights (responsibilities)? Shouldn't this band of people have the guts to make decisions? Could the fear of failure be holding them back? Sometimes this fear partly comes from varying backgrounds and life experiences Yes, I'm of the opinion that society, as a whole, IS unprepared for people to manage themselves. However, there IS a small band of us REFUSING to fit the mold of "Status Quo" .... People like you and I (and a handful of others) think FOR ourselves....That's the MAJOR difference. We question things that may NOT even HAVE answers:) Remember, you ALWAYS have a CHOICE. It may NOT be easy. The CHALLENGE here is for YOU to make a POSITIVE CHANGE in YOUR life. Post-mortems are for morticians and coroners, NOT sales professionals. Let's face it. Much of what we do, simply doesn't work, so we can't waste time analyzing each and every move that went wrong. How many of us spend TOO much time trying to learn from mistakes? That's a loser's game.
Trying to live and SELL in a negative world CAN generate additional negative vibes. If your roof falls in on your head, do you begin a stress failure evaluation? No. In sales, we pick ourselves UP, dust ourselves off, and pound the e-pavement, again and again! Every NO puts us closer to a YES!
The very best way to beat defeat is to get something positive going for you, as soon as possible. Always maintain target account lists so that you'll have the next most likely prospect ready to ROLL, if something comes apart at the seams, on any given day.
It's wise to keep a friendly account in reserve. What are friends for, if not to give you, or help you get an order, when your ego needs a lift? ASK. There's really no business problem that can't be solved by a brand new accounts first order.
Have you ever noticed that when the sun breaks through the clouds, it changes the view? Go find a hole in the clouds and stand under it. There's more than one way to make the sun shine for you! GET moving!

(c) Maria Marsala Sarah Hughes, Gold Metal Skater, had hers at age six. Joseph Campbell, folklore author, found his after visiting the Museum of History in NYC. At age 4, Oprah Winfrey remembers watching her grandmother washing clothes by boiling them - Oprah "knew" then her life would be different. They all found something that raised their inner vibrations, their passion -- and created a vision.
People who live their visions always seem to have time to do the things they want to do - we often call them "go getters!" They're focused, make decisions easily and smile often. And they're flexible - they don't get "stuck" in their vision and miss better opportunities. As Joseph Campbell said, "We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us." And you're not limited to just one vision. People are living full lives into their 90s, something unheard of just a few generations ago. With continued opportunities to grow and evolve, we may create several visions over a lifetime. I can give you an example
I loved being a trader on Wall Street and couldn't see myself doing anything else. But 20 years later, I've found another passion - consulting and coaching - and perhaps in another 20 years, there'll be another passion that calls to me - I can't wait! If you want to live in a way that empowers and motivates you, it's time to create a vision. Make it simple but remember that the hallmark of a vision is that it promotes action. You must get it out of your head, onto paper, and into your life! Here are some ways to create a compelling vision. Create a theme for the year. Make it specific and based on where you want to be, - what you want to accomplish -12 months from now. Choose 1-4 words that will keep you motivated, for example: -- Simply Wealthy -- Big Leaps of Faith, -- Be Present, Present Be -- Be a Successful Me. Place YOUR words on index cards, or even better create a banner with your theme on it!

Originated in the late 1960s by Tony Buzan, millions of people use Mind Maps for the purpose of visioning. Draw a circle the size of a quarter in the middle of a sheet of paper and write "YOU" in the middle. Then draw a line coming out of the circle for each area of your life - Relationships, Family, Romance, Friends, Professional, Personal/Spiritual growth, Finance & Money, Physical Environment, Health, Play & Recreation. These lines can be short or long, straight or squiggly, and you can use as many colors as you like!
Out of each of the primary lines, create more lines with ideas, or draw some pictures about the topic. A mind map's purpose is to visualize what's important to you, why it's important, and to create a plan to help you reach your goals. In the late 1970's, I learned about setting SMART goals, a system I continue to use with myself and my clients. SMART is an acronym for a goal-setting technique: S(pecific), M(easurable), A(chievable), R(ealistic), T(ime-frame).
Let's say you want to create a vision for your business. Using the Vision Statement formula from The One Business Plan, by Jim Horan, you'd create one sentences that includes the "time frame" for the vision, a company name, an adjective that best describes what you want to accomplish, what your business is about, who it's for, where your clients are located, describe your products or service and, of course, include how much you want to make - net or gross, your choice. If an opportunity comes your way, look at it in light of your vision, say an opportunity comes your way. Finally, update your vision or theme yearly - and the beginning of the New Year is a great time to do it! Your vision can be much more powerful and last longer than a list of resolutions. Part 4 -- What Constitutes a Business? Do you have a belief that a business is a community of participants organized around a common purpose? Participants usually have legitimate interests in how the business is conducted so they DO have legitimate rights over its business affairs. Contract business fanss see the enterprise as being run by employees or managers, even groups, as a kind of democratic organization. Ideas get pooled. Brainstorming occurs and flows. People trust development ideas. Synergy moves tasks to benefit the whole entity. Profit and income potential are present in many business set-ups. Business theories abound on the interent and in business, in general. Stake-Holder types believe that people who DO have common, legitimate interests in a business, should also have a voice in how it is run, even IF the facts show that they do not have ownership in the business. The non-owners ARE also Stake-Holders. They could be employees, members or associates that hold other titles. Yes, we could say that a business is essentially considered someone's property. In this light, its owners have the right to operate and dispose of it as they see fit, within the confines of the law, ethics and values. In this case, generally workers or consumers don't have any special rights over the actual property. A good description of this is that workers voluntarily exchange their labor on behalf of the business owner for wages or per agreements made in advance. They have no more right to tell the owner how he will operate or dispose of his property than the owner has to tell them how to spend their money, or the property that belongs to the workers. However, assuming the business has portrayed its goods honestly and with FULL disclosure, consumers have no rights to try to govern the business, which belongs to another person. Courtesy sometimes changes this set-up. It's wise to point out that a property owner's rights are not un-limited, and that they are always constrained by ethics and values. A car owner cannot burn up his car and jeopardize the whole neighborhood just because he owns the car. Just as an oil refinery business does not have an un-limited right to pollute the air during the manufacturing process, responsibility is key. He joins with the dream of getting a truck load of subscribers...but in fact he is compromising his own lists. What kind of a JV is this where participants are taken for a ride with hidden motives? Joining for JV's like this will seriously undermine your effectiveness with the future interaction with your lists. So what are basic steps to remember while proposing a JV or participating in a JV? For The JV Proponent -------------------- 1. Today you may be a guru. People may flock at your doorstep to enter into your JV. The real business philosopher might ask, to exactly what extent, does intuition play a role in our business knowledge? What do we think it means to have "a gut feeling" about a business matter? How is it useful? Is there even such an "animal" as business intuition, or is it simply a matter of processing or internalizing past and current knowledge, through a variey of experiences that can make it seem intuitive. Is it guessing or gambling with our thoughts and or experiences? Many mangagers and marketers would probably say that they DO operate AND rely on using their intuition, especially when dealing with people, which can then lead us to wonder about the role of psychology in business matters. Ever feel like you didn't like someone but you had NO clue why? I am a firm believer and follower of intuition that can alert the mind to upcoming mishaps, misunderstandings and disasters. Getting tiny agreements as you move along the sales process, can have favorable results:
1. NEVER go down the e-path without your customer being your sidekick!
2. Know that if they stick to you like super glue, with positive responses as you go along, the close has a good chance of becoming one more positive response. Traveling in the same direction is always important. Don't allow distractions! You want to GET to a common destination. Test the e-waters with small helps.
"Don't you agree? ....... Shouldn't "THIS" be the next step?....Good, If that's the case, can we do this today?"
EVERY tiny question should logically lead to the BIG questions, which are: "Can we do business with each other... can we begin right away?"
If problems are going to crop up, the earlier you discover them, the better you can deal with solutions. Deal stoppers are often deadly at the end of the e-path. Get things out in the open, right upfront.
"I'll work on this and get back to you."
"I'd like to help out. Let me see IF we can do it. I'll get back to you."
Now, that scenario SURE beats, "Sorry, you struck out; we're well satisfied with our current supplier."

Education Is a Business Philosophy Mini-Series ==> Is Intuition Foolish? We could say that intuition is by definition, not the same thing as an opinion that's based on experience. Intuition might have unconsciously been formed by our previous experiences. A person who has an intuitive opinion can't fully explain why he or she holds that particular viewpoint. These people generally say that they just FELT like, it "was" the right thing to do. A Master of Instinct and Intuition can be very valuable in business circles. Intuition is an unconscious form of knowledge. It's on the spot, upfront and not open to rational or typical OR analytical thought processes. It's different from instinct, which does NOT have an experience element. It's a very high form of skill aquisition and can even be, a model for business. Intuition does present some advantages in solving complex problems and finding new results. It is ONE source of common sense. It sometimes helps us gain knowledge. Some sources of intuition are: feelings, experiences and knowledge, itself. Brainstorming is an important intuitive method. A great brainstormer is very hard to beat in the business world. WHY? Because enlightenment might take over the competitive advantages. We can match skills. We can't always match a master brainstorming mind. Intuition doesn't always intend to find a solution right away. Sometimes it can help to sleep on things, over-night. I recently saw an old Russian Maxim: The morning knows more than the evening. The Paradox --- Understanding A situation which is or CAN appear to be true, but violates our intuition, is called a paradox (a paradox can also be a logical self-contradiction). As a philosophy, intuition is one of the basic cognitive faculties. It's equivalent to what might casually be called, "perception". Some theories hold that ALL of our mind, casts ALL of our "external" intuitions in the form of space, and all of our "internal" intuitions, some of which are memory and thought, are in the form of time. Have you ever "really" thought about mathematical knowledge? It's knowledge of the pure forms of intuition. If you stop to examine math theory with a philosophical viewpoint, you'll get a better idea of something that works fabulously but does it actually have concrete back-up? You need a benefits "list" but you should always be leading with your strongest statement.
What counts the MOST, to the contact you're approaching? Do you know? If not, find out! Pitch your #1 benefit to spear-head your sales conversation.
Price counts but remember that not every customer wants to buy the same benefits. Some people want quality and they WILL pay more cash to get it. Some customers need FAST delivery and will only do business with someone who can handle it. 24/7 Customer Service AND Delivery can be an attractive sales hook. Of course, NOT everyone can provide this awesome set of services. If you can do it ( or get it done - by someone who can do it,) you'll have a sales advantage.
Start off with your primary benefit, not number eight. You don't want your customer to cut you off, before you even GET to explain your key point.
Homework:
Write down a list of ALL the benefits that apply to THIS customer. Why buy from you? Rank this list. Open WITH number one. It's fine if you do get the chance to walk them through your whole sales pitch, but go back to the primary benefit. Get an agreement; close the sale. What do they want and need more than anything else? Sell it to them. =======================================

How To Master The Power Of "Now" (c) Frank Garon What are you going to do once the Holidays are past and you're facing another year of the same old, same old? Don't you want 2005 to be different than this year?
I can tell you this - There is one thing and one thing along that WILL make 2005 your best year ever... And that one thing is having an understanding and a mastery of the "Power Of Now". We've talked about this in previous issues, about how the past is just that. And we talked about how the future is just a "Now" that isn't "Now" yet. It's a hard concept to grasp, but "Now" is really the only moment in time that counts. If you are happy in the "Now", then you have control over your emotions and what happens to you. Work with me for a minute here - the past was nothing more than a "Now" that occurred at that moment in time. It's gone, it's done and there is no going back. To take your "right now" and to mess it up by reliving past events that didn't go your way is being abusive to yourself in a sense. Now, I am not saying that we shouldn't look back on the past and learn lessons from it. To be oblivious of the past is to be foolish. But... To dwell on the past to the extent that it costs you your present happiness or your future plans, that's just crazy. It's like dropping ice cream on the sidewalk. It's done, it's over. You had an accident. It happens. The question is, do you now go back into Dairy Queen and buy yourself another large cup of Vanilla and focus on being happy right here right now, Or... Do you sit there and cry and moan and wail about your dropped ice cream and promise to never eat ice cream again because after all you just bought some and dropped it and how dumb are you and how you should have known better and how silly and foolish of you and so best not to ever to try to eat ice cream again because it's just too painful to do? Now, does that sound silly to you? Giving up ice cream just because you dropped it one time? It is silly. You wouldn't dream of punishing yourself for dropping ice cream by accident. After all, it's no big deal and you are only human. You go and pick up another cup and off you go. But yet, in life when we make other mistakes, we beat ourselves senseless. We relive them, anguish over them, rage against our own selves, we do everything we can to punish ourselves and we somehow manifest the same situation over and over and over. It's like as if we were getting paid to relive things, that's how much energy we put into it. But, what if... What if instead of beating ourselves up for past mistakes, we focused instead on the "Present Moment"? What if we said "hey, past is past and right now I can happily choose to bring into existence an entirely new outcome in my life"? What if it were possible to do this? Possible to have the ability to change any situation you don't like, instantly and effortlessly? How many things could you improve in your life if you only had the ability to stop and think and say hey "in this moment, I chose to be present and accountable for my own actions. I will no longer be a victim". "In fact, if X upsets/bothers/depresses me, I will simply move away from it, I will release "ownership" of it, and I will instead change my thoughts and my reactions towards something that will be more productive"? In Dr. Robert Anthony's course over at http://eliteinnercircle.com/reports/c/87 , he talks about the importance of "flip-switching". What that means is that you mentally 'fiip a switch' in your mind and when something negative gets in your head, you learn how to deliberately "overwrite" it with a positive thought. It takes practice, but believe it or not, if you can only just replace a negative thought with a positive thought - any positive thought - for just 17 seconds, you literally "defuse the bomb" and the negative emotion is cancelled out. It literally becomes null and void and you learn that it has no power over you, no effect over you, only that which you chose to give it in the first place. I can't stress how vitally important this concept is to you. To your internet efforts, to be sure. But, I am talking about your entire life from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed. Imagine how much further along you would be online if you only, only, if you only just had a way to leave your past behind and to come to live only in this exact moment. You'd be able to chose wisely, to pick the thing that is best for you to do and to do it by second nature. How powerful would that be? I have beat myself up over silly things I've done literally thirty years ago. Now, let's think about that for a second. What kind of maniac punishes himself for something that occurred three freaking decades ago? I mean when I think about it, my mind reels in horror. No one else is sitting there doing this to me, no one is holding me down and forcing me to relive the summer of 1979 or Jan 16th, 1986 or even last Tuesday, are they? The fact is the only person that can hold us down, beat us up, hurt us bad is our own selves. Now, that seems to be simple enough to grasp. You would think a smart guy like me would be able to figure this stuff out and just fix it all with a snap of my fingers, right? But that's not the case. I still beat myself up over things. I still don't live fully in the "present moment" and I am still not what I would call "situationally aware" all the time. But.., What I can tell you is that I am way, way ahead of where I've been in the past and I am making steady (and dramatic) progress towards being able to focus fully on the "Now". Education as a Business Philosophy - Part 1
This is NOT a "wanna be" zillionaire style series of emails. It's a business philosophy that indicates what few people "decide" to acknowledge. Take a Look.... Referrals are Always PURE Gold!
The best answer to the customer's implied question "Why should I listen to you?" is this:
1. Someone they esteem or trust says YOU are worth listening to. Referrals open closed doors that we can't access in other ways. For us, life is an e-game of "who" you know. That statement is only distasteful to those who say they don't know anybody.
We can get acquainted with hundreds of people in the course of our daily e-selling duties. It isn't hard to get referrals in our line of business. ASK for them! All you have to do is remember to ASK people "who" they know and will they introduce you, or allow you use them as a referral. Do this consistently and in time, it will work for you.
Sometimes, you'll have to sell the idea of getting a referral. Use a 3-step sales approach:
1. "Why should I listen to you?" Think: "Because I have just done some outstanding things for you, Eric."
2. " What's in this for me?" Think: "Your friend will certainly thank you for sending me to them."
3. "Why should I do something right now?" "I'm asking you now so I can follow up with your contact right away. Then they'll owe YOU a favor!"
There's very little argument that the most powerful e-password you can ever GET is, "Eric sent me." It's really a 3rd-party testimony that you WILL be trusted not only on your own words, but because ERIC says so!
Use Eric's name for all he is worth, and believe me, he has always been worth PLENTY in every sales business!

Quickly set up one for my site, submitted it on directories and went to bed. Sunday morning, I noticed a sale. Idly, I scanned my logs to see where the buyer had found me. It was from Yahoo! Now that may not seem surprising, except... I had not been listed in Yahoo! before. Curious, I did a Yahoo! Search for my domain name... and almost fainted in shock! There were 123 of my pages listed - many of them in the top 10 ranks on my best keywords. My RSS feed had been listed within 48 hours - and since my other pages were linked from it, they had all been indexed by Yahoo! just as quickly. And for free! Since then I have heard many others share similar experiences. It is no fluke. RSS is H-O-T. And search engines LOVE it. So what is RSS? An acronym for Really Simple Syndication, it is a web language format designed to help syndicate content across different sources. RSS has been around for more than 10 years but has only recently become popular. RSS feeds provide headlines and summaries of information in a concise and standardized way. The rise in RSS popularity, specially among marketers, has many reasons. Email filters and new legislation have lowered the effectiveness of email marketing. Content syndication in many different ways is gathering momentum. And fresh, frequently updated content is the very essence of the Web. How can you use RSS feeds in your marketing? Is there a way to turn RSS feeds into profits? Absolutely. Here are some ideas:
1. Beat email filters. Ask your subscribers, prospects and clients to sign up to your RSS feed along with your email newsletter. If the ezine gets blocked, they'll still get your RSS feed. 2. Spread the word. Offer your new, valuable content to many other 'lazy' website owners - in return for getting extra exposure of your name and brand to their audiences. 3. Get listed on search engines. No one knows how long this 'honeymoon' will last. But ride the wave - and get into search engines quickly, inexpensively - by submitting your RSS feeds to them. 4. Use the first-mover advantage. Dedicated RSS directories are mushrooming. Make sure your RSS feed is indexed in them and you could future-proof your business. Now ... on to the question: What's the best way to promote my business? {These are my opinions ONLY} 1. There is NO "one size fits all" best way to promote your business. Promotion can range from marketing, advertising, PPC, written articles, word of mouth, search engine optimization, etc {the list is nearly endless} 2. Quite frankly, by NOT leaving your contact info at my message center, you have possibly reduced your credibility ... who asks for help and then doesn't leave a way to contact them?? The old school of e-marketing focused on technology innovation. Today, prospects know that technology and services are the business tools which "drive" results. Like other business tools, prospects willseek reasons to buy your tools, instead of someone else's. In order to grow your company aggressively into 2005, you'll need to FOCUS on your sales distribution. Your sales capabilities create your paycheck!. If you're serious about leading into 2005, a 10-15% income growth should never be acceptable. You must plan, strategize and plot your business model and make appropriate changes, in order to grow . e-Courage requires real action, not just thinking about action. Where should your time, effort and marketing dollars go ? They must all be focused on creating sales leads. Be careful not to use vague practices or invest in marketing that is difficult to implement. You should want an opportunity that offers a solid - growth income. Spending money on marketing is like investing in a huge pleasure boat. It drains your budget and you still wonder why you have it. Focus on results that are SALES specific. It's "SO" easy to say we win because of our prices, technology, or that our customer service is better, but many times the differences between you and your competition are more marginal than you might even imagine. It's more important than ever , to understand your sales process and why YOU want to win IN your e- business. Understand why you LOSE business. You already know what your sales staff says, but is it accurate? Can you trust the people you work with? Have you really investigated the details of why you lose deals? Google offers many features that you may not know about. Let's take a look at a few of them. Colors: With built in color palettes, you can use Google's or create up to 100 of your own. You can pick up to four palettes that randomly rotate on your site. Channels: If you use Adsense on multiple sites, it's nice to know which page and domains are generating the most click thrus. Channels offer detailed reporting so you can assign separate channels to each of your domains, track different ad formats to see which sites/ads are pulling better. You can use up to 50 channels and you can deactivate them at will. If you use descriptive names in your titles, you can easily recognize what you were tracking when you check your stats later on. You will have to generate specific code to paste onto your pages. Ad Formats: Google offers many different ad formats in various sizes, from buttons to banners. To view all of the available sizes, see http://google.com/adsense/adformats You'll want to experiment with different formats to see which ones generate the best click through rates for you. Image Ads: Don't forget about image ads, which are offered in four major formats: Leaderboard 728X90 Banner 468X60 Med Rectangle 300X250 Skyscraper 120X600 You can opt to show a combination of image and text ads, but not image ads alone. You can also choose to display image ads only on some pages of your site and not all of them. Again, you'll want to test to see if graphic ads outperform standard text ads. To avoid this you can set up your own "alternate ads" to appear in their place. By showing your own ads you can still generate an income instead of donating the space to charity. Phillip ======================== The Hawk and the Dove -- Great Leadership Skills Part 4 How can you develop intuition to help you along your leadership path? Intuition can be described like a muscle. It must be worked out in order to develop. It really helps if you make yourself aware of impulses that are always manifesting in your mind and body. We all get inner messages. Fear is a prime example of an inner message. Maybe someone was speaking to you and you got a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach. Have you ever heard someone's voice and saw an image flash in your mind? What about the times that you spoke with someone and said to yourself...." She's lying! " These things are all windows into your inner senses. Intuition is important in our line of work. Gut instinct has to be strong. If you begin to pay close attention to these inner impulses and signals, you'll be fine tuning your own intuition! Repeat to yourself words describing the feelings you experienced. Consciously say to yourself.... "that person gave me a sick feeling." You can also begin a journal to write down these inner thoughts. Never discount anything that pops into your mind. One of the saddest enemies of intuition is our own rational mind, discounting our information. Fine tune your intuition......it helps in our line of business! You can grow your company based on your business strengths and weaknesses. ===> "The most fatal illusion is the settled point of view. Life is growth and motion; a fixed point of view kills anybody who has one." Brooks Atkinson ===> It takes a guts and courage to accept the fact that your current business model may not be making the grade. Courage is an awkward word, because it creates "visual pictures" in the mind of the receiver that are based on their perception of what it means. "Courage" as Aesop once said "is easy from a safe distance." Look beyond the mundane! IF you are in e-sales, forget the " Steady Freddy" approach. That "grow-as-you-go" concept has to be ignored. Sure,, you can always blame the economy or blame your competition for dropping their prices or copying you, but innovative and creative business owners take chances and risks. They adapt to their business model needs,with courage and confidence! It can be safe and easy NOTto take chances and grow slowly, but those who need to keep a roof over their heads, need to stop managing their businesses from a safe distance. This type of e-cultural and e-operational change . . . takes real courage and character. Where are the hard charging, "take-no-prisoner," LEADERS who want to dominate in their market in ethical fashion? What happened to healthy competition? Has the e-game sucked and sapped the very strength out of all of the fair play "let's go get them" e-business owners? This kind of lack, "the let's go get 'em" leadership does trickle down to e-sales, e-operations and e-marketing teams. If they observe the management team's lack of aggressive leadership and subliminally adopt this very lazy and passive style of business revenue, progress comes to a halt. As a senior e-business, if you are not aggressively growing your own e-business, you must realze that there are thousands of other internet companies that could be emailing and /or calling your prospects. Is it silly or naïve to suggest that e-business owners take control of their companies, and NOT maintain the same stale, old, operating models? Why shouldn't they try to aggressively grow their businesse even if it is culturally or politically uncomfortable? Where's the courage and character? Where's the guts? Is the goal just to maintain current status quo? No, not if the leader's goals are to lead their firm to great success levels. There are primary measurements of marketing and sales.under contract. Leaders always possess certain traits that motivate people to follow and collaborate with them. Courage is one necessary element of real leardership. True leaders seldom buckle under pressure. They're durable and reliable.
As leaders consistently express these traits, the more they will influence, inspire and motivate their colleagues, staff and customers in ways that can usually make and save more money within the enterprise, over the long haul. Everyone benefits.......so greed is unknown and unacceptable.. We all should be able to match our "walk" with our "talk." This can help increase a positive impact on those around us. If you invest the time necessary to do a periodic review of these traits, you'll probably improve in many areas. What results can you expect? You should experience an increase in credibility. People will come to trust you, have more confidence in you, respect you, and cooperate with you., You should feel increased loyalty flowing toward you, as you work with people. The best part about the results is that you'll be helping yourself and other people to achieve your organization's mission, vision, operating values, ethics and goals. Commonplace aggravations are on the rise in all parts of e-life and life, in general. We no longer see hoards of street people or e-people, wanting to help us "carry our e-groceries." Disgruntled people hand us language here that can make a sailor blush at times. Do these goofs call offline companies and speak so boldly in anger?
In short, a lack of e-manners is more than picking the right fork at the table. The key factors might be improved with the description we'll define as the "3-legged-table." We tend to say we have manners but oftentimes we lose our cool. We used to rely on home, school and our place of worship, to shape character and life. Some of our contacts might have been raised on RAP music and Pop Culture, where language, frequently has no boundaries. With some people, one OR more of the legs of the table might be missing. Since we don't do background checks for business, how do we survive verbal e-assaults?
Do your best to keep cool under e-fire. Many people quite frankly, do not feel the need to be courteous to other people, online and offline. Small daily offenses can really rock e-boats and ruin a great day. Yes, it's important if you don't want people to be rude to you, don't be rude to them. However, those who practice verbal abuse with threats and filth should be dropped from your pool of acquaintances and be held accountable, for their actions.

All Aboard The Hype Train
Copyright 2004, Willie Crawford Are you not achieving the level on on-line success that you desire? Are you not making enough sales for the products and services that you promote? Are you having trouble finding that program that's going to give you that BIG break? Are you still looking for that "silver bullet?" If you answered yes to all or most of the above questions then your problem may be that you are riding on the "hype train." What exactly is the "hype train?" It's a term I coined to describe the ride taken by people getting pumped up (excited) about every great product they read about. They haven't yet found that product that's making them incredible riches. They jump from product to product searching frantically for that one product. They jump from car to car on a train that's taking them nowhere! You need to be aware of how the hype train works so that you don't get on for the most futile ride of your life! The success of the hype train is fueled by a number of human faults. The biggest one that I've noticed is what's termed the "herd mentality." This is very noticeable in the "internet marketing" arena. Humans are reassured when they see others doing the same things they are doing, or doing things that they are contemplating. That's part of why testimonials work in advertising. We are not sure that we are about to make the correct decision, but we get a "warm fuzzy" when we see those we believe are savvy individuals making the choice we are contemplating. If those we follow are making good choices, that can be good.... it saves us the trouble of doing all of our own research. Where the herd mentality gets us in trouble is when we let fear of missing out cause us to take action. If we read about a new product or service and get involved because we fear that hesitating will cause us to totally miss out, we often make bad decisions. We fail to reason that if a product or service is really that great, the demand will still be there tomorrow and we do have time to "sleep on" the decision. If the market is so limited that thinking about it for a day or two will cause you to lose out, then you should probably pass anyway! As we contemplate our decision to get involved in promoting a product or service, hype often rears it's ugly head. I define hype as things designed to get us so excite about a product or service that we don't examine it objectively. Laws and standards often keep the hype from being blatant lies. Instead, the positive points are emphasized and the negative aspects are never presented. An example of this is when an affiliate program manager tells of the affiliate making $10,000 a month. If he fails to mention that this affiliate is not "average" and gives the impression that many, many affiliates are achieving this income level, then it's "hype." Hype is used in the internet marketing arena and many others because it works. People have to see the "potential" in an opportunity. If an affiliate program manager spent a lot of effort emphasizing that most affiliates never make any sales, he would get very few signups. It doesn't matter that the reason most affiliates for many programs never make any sales is that they never do anything to promote the product. Those drawn to the hype often enthusiastically embrace what appears to be a really promising product or service. As soon as they get on the train and get settled in for the ride, they look over at another car and see another business opportunity that they can't afford to miss. The herd mentality kicks in and they jump into the next car. As the train chugs along these people jump from car to car. All of this unfocused activity rarely produces significant results and the person soon dozes off to sleep.... tired and disillusioned. He awaken day after day and continues his frantic jump from car to car never seeing how unproductive it all is. How do you avoid taking a ride on the hype train? You take a hard look at any product or service that you are thinking of promoting. You look for real value and long-term potential. You confirm that it's not just a product that in a week will be old news and will have left a lot of disappointed purchasers in it's wake. You acknowledge that the true path to earning a decent living on-line is marketing products and services that deliver real quality and value. Delivering real quality and value produces repeat customers, and this gives you a steadily growing income. Now that you are aware of the hype train, you can avoid the ride. You can ensure that you don't help finance a train that only leads many to terrible train wrecks. Now you can look for that gravy train that is on the true track to long-term business success. Let's begin by defining leadership.
1. True leadership is really awesome. It's a matchless desire to make a real difference by marshaling and meshing the talents and gifts of other people, all for a nobel cause. 2. Leadership can also be a nightmare. It's a drill in sorting through messy human relationships, sometimes in gory detail. Leadership can be quite a wild adventure because in some way, it enables us to magnify our own personal impact on the whole world. 3. Leadership can be very lonely. It's often a battle against our own doubts and apprehensions, where we only have our own judgement about human nature, to fall back on. We win a few rounds and lose more rounds than a few, but the gems usually do survive. 4. Leadership is certainly unique! It's not a matter of you or me "doing" or "being" great; it's about us "inspiring" excellence and greatness in other people. Selfishness is never the aim of a true leader. 5. Leadership is the highest level of responsibility. It's always an assumption of real accountability ... accountability for people that you can't control, for actions that you never perform, for all of the people and places that may not share OR encourage, your own true sense of ongoing accountability. Real leadership has to be built and nurtured on trust. Think about this......... Is leadership ... what you thought it was?! It's never about having or using command and control or Royal Charisma. It always requires lingering in the depths and pits, then soaring to up to the heights, as we rally other people to re-invent themselves, in order to pursue "almost" seemingly impossible and lofty dreams. I Would Give Anything To …
(c) Kathleen Gage A couple days ago I was listening to a CD by one of the most successful speakers in the industry. He has been around for many years and is considered one of the greats. He is also considered to be somewhat off the beaten path. As much as he is admired and respected by many, he is judged by just as many. The segment I found most intriguing was one about how others often say to him, "I would give anything to be a successful speaker and author just like you."
Anyone who has achieved a relatively high level of success in their industry has probably had the same statement directed to them. "I would give anything to be a successful ________ just like you." Truth be told, achieving a level of success others will want to emulate is something most people are not willing to make the necessary sacrifices for. Sure, they want the end result, but are they willing to step out from the crowd and do what it takes to achieve their dream? Are they willing to go through the inevitable ups and downs? Over the years I've had the opportunity to work with some pretty incredible people. Folks who have achieved more than most could only dream of. Individuals who others will look at and think, 'I would be willing to do anything to achieve that level of success.' Sadly, that is about as far as many people get with their desire to accomplish what they want out of life. They talk about it, but don't do what is necessary to achieve it. I'm not referring simply to monetary success. I am referring to contribution to community, personal success, physical success, or virtually anything that would signify a complete life. In last month’s column I mentioned the book I am co-authoring. Why Be Different? Success Secrets for Selling the Unsellable is a book about how one can set themselves apart from the competition in such a way that they literally become leaders in their industry. Much of the book will be based on interviews conducted with people from a variety of industries such as real estate, healthcare, accounting, hospitality and more. Being a leader doesn’t necessarily mean you are the biggest. It means that you are the one others look to when determining standards of success within an industry. As I have been gathering information, what I find interesting is some of the similarities with the people we are featuring in the book. Each person has been through some incredible ups and downs on their road to success. Each has gone through experiences that would make someone else quickly throw in the towel. They didn’t let the roadblocks stop them; they just kept moving forward in order to reach their goals. What I find most intriguing is their powerful belief in having a vision of what is possible. All are also very flexible in their approach to life. They knew what they wanted to achieve and if one thing didn’t work they tried something else. If that didn’t work, they tried yet something else. They kept at it until they achieved their goals. The words "no" and "can't" are almost nonexistent in their vocabulary. Also evident is their generosity to their community and their clients. Rather than putting a price tag on everything, they often make contributions without expecting anything in return. They do it because it makes others feel good and it is simply the right thing to do. With each person, a love of what they are doing is essential. Although they work very hard, they have such an incredible passion for what they are doing that when the tough times hit, they are virtually unstoppable. People who are not incredibly passionate about what they are doing give up when they are presented with roadblocks to their success. Don't just be another person saying, "I'd do anything to..." Many of us have an inclination to put layers of comfort between ourselves and everyone out there in e-town. Like a bird builds a nest with comfortable layers of feathers. tree fluffies and twigs, we build our own e-space with things that give us a calmness and level of comfort. Is this harmony always possible? No, it isn't.
It can be reached through compassionate and qualfied leadership. How do YOU stand out in this e-crowd? Of course, we know we can't have it all....all the time. That's why we need a keen appreciation of what a good leader can do to provide balance along combined success journeys. Awareness of the "whole" can give us all a surge of personal and group power....this is what good leadership should hand us.

Daily preparation takes 4 YEARS and their workouts last hours upon hours. We can relate to that daily grind if we operate a serious e-business. It isn't easy to operate a successful e-business and pull a profit out of it in a short time frame. Don't you think they get tired? Maybe a BIG slice of cake suits their taste buds but they skip it.
Is it easy to always do what you feel is right or do you struggle for "first place" in doubt? It's understandable that you have limits and restrictions. Think abut this; do you really believe that you can become financially independent wasting a lot of time? I hope not.

If you wait too long any enthusiasm you once had for your goals will fizzle away. You will do nothing at all. To sum up... Make sure your preparation is adequate for the activities ahead and then dive in and give it everything you have. Then keep moving and let the momentum carry you along.
