Prosperity Automated System in Trouble

Thursday, September 28, 2006
The LA Times reported today that the Prosperity Automated System (PAS) is being targeted by the Securitys & Exchange Commission (SEC). Their goal is to shut them down. Honestly, I'm not familiar with their products or compensation plan, but having the SEC go after you is bad news from any perspective. If you're involved in any similar programs, you might want to pay attention to this case.

Opportunity Meeting Place - Findings

Wednesday, September 13, 2006
On the inside, Opportunity Meeting Place contains the typical Profile pages, a Blog, Classified posting area, Groups, a Forum, and direct links to a HotConference private room. The only updateable areas are the profile, ability to add banners (although I can't see where they'd be displayed yet), you can create and join groups, and post classifieds. The Group categories are rather limited: MLM Opportunities, Investment Opportunities, Day Trading Opportunities, and Franchise Opportunities. Where does Quikonnex and DeskView fit into that mix???? There's definitely a lot of work that needs to be done. I can't dis them for linking to HotConference -- that's all they have available :-) the poor guys :-( There's still the promise that this will be a good networking location, but they've got a lot to do to catch up with Ryze and LinkedIn.

Tag and Ping - Is it worth it?

Monday, June 05, 2006
There's a new SEO technique being promoted call Tag and Ping. While this technique in itself is not bad, there's a package being sold via an affiliate site at tagandping.com for $147.00 that looks like the start of a new spamming method. Blogging and Pinging was great when it started, but now if you look at the listings on sites like weblogs.com all you see is a list of porno sites. When will social bookmarking tools that allow tagging be degraded by abusive techniques.

Butterfly Marketing? A Scam?

Wednesday, February 01, 2006

Is the latest buzz, Butterfly Marketing, a scam? Absolutely not! But!!!!!!

If you think you're going to make money by getting in on this $997.00 deal and reselling it, you're nuts! First of all, there's only 1500 packages being sold and over 500 were sold on the first day, so your ability to capitalize on the opportunity is severely limited out of the gate. Mile Filsaime says he's spent the last 18 months putting together this product. A significant amount of this time was probably used to line up his joint venture team. Let's see... I've received invitations to buy this package from Coya Moda, Gary Ambrose,  Jeremy Gislason, Michail Rasmussen, Rob Taylor, Nick Temple and Mike Fislaime himself. These guys have created special incentive packages to get you to buy Butterfly Marketing from them, so, unless you were part of the inner circle and were pre-prepared for this launch, the odds are not in your favor. Does this mean you shouldn't buy it?

New Marketing Test of Email Effectiveness

Thursday, September 08, 2005
It's been awhile since I looked at any program that used email as its basis. The last time I even looked at marketing gimick was almost a year ago when Instant Buzz was lauched. That one was a flop. So let's see what Your Lucky List will bring to the table.

The Death of Free Blogs

Monday, May 09, 2005
I've seen folks predicting the death of email, the death of ... you pick it. I've got my own prediction to make here. The ability for someone to get a free blog site or free trial on one will soon come to an end. Either this or the sites that offer them will be banned from Google and Yahoo directories. Want to know why?

Mike Chen Goes to College - Hmmmm

Friday, March 18, 2005
I certainly don't want to bash this young man, so take my comments here for what they're meant to be... a skeptical look at a this marketing campaign. Mike's probably really going to college, but I doubt very seriously that he's getting out of the Internet business (DeJa Vu ... Mark Joyner's Farewell).

Google Advertising Changes for Affiliate Marketeers

Friday, January 07, 2005
If you're advertising products and services as an affiliate and using your affiliate URL, you'll probably want to review Google's new policy regarding affiliate advertising. You can still make money, but you'll need to change the way you're marketing those products.

Comment Spam

Thursday, December 30, 2004
Some of the Quikonnex publishers have experienced what is called "Comment Spam". Visitors to the Quikonnex blog-like pages post comments unrelated to the publisher's article and post with user names like 'online poker', 'phentermine', 'mortgages', 'flowers', etc. and the comment itself is promoting their website. First of all, Quikonnex has put together a system to battle this comment spam problem, but I'd like to answer your questions as to "why do they do this?"

Toolbar Marketing

Thursday, October 28, 2004
I have to give Mike Chen credit, the guy is very creative. Mike, if you've not heard of him, is the creator of the Make Your Own Software product. He's came up with a really innovative way to sell this product via his new InstantBuzz website. Here's the deal, you get his new InstantBuzz toolbar and when you first logon, you're provided with a one-time, never to be repeated offer. He's actually put together a very, irresistable offer, but to get it, you have to buy his Make Your Own Software product.

But here's what I really think is the creative part of this offer...
EDITOR'S NOTE: While it was interesting concept back when they first launched, I really cannot recommend that anyone use or install this program. Thomas's note below gives some good tips on how to get rid of it if you've installed it. [Read More!]

myPaySystems Goes BUST!

Monday, August 16, 2004
I just read this on the Warrior Forum and it could impact a lot of folks doing business on the Internet (post dated 8-10-04). myPaySystems is a myPaySystems is a third party payment processor which allows vendors to accept credit card payments via the Internet. What really concerns me with this deal is this: "notice is given that all funds must be held pending risk review of each account". Some of the Warriors have been pushing thousands of dollars of business through myPaySystems and this could do major harm to their cash flow.

Hot Marketing Tip - Ping-O-Matic

Wednesday, June 09, 2004
Would you like to get the word out on your channel? One way we're doing it now is to do what is called "Pinging Weblogs". There's a new kid on the block and it's more than weblogs. It's what's called a meta-pinger. Just like there are search engines that allow you to search multiple search engines, Ping-O-Matic allows you to ping multiple locations from one site.
