Brain Storm! Business Podcast: News, Technology & Marketing

In this week's business podcast, we will review more futuristic inventions, and some technological advances in the sports realm.

OK, so this brainstorming session got somewhat personal when I started talking about sports, and especially Nascar, but it just struck a nerve, you know? When you're passionate about something, it comes through, and in this business podcast, I admit, I did rant a little.

We start off by talking about plastics (nylon) made from corn.

Dupont (Jeff Gordon's sponsor in Nascar - just thought I would throw that in), has traditionally been an ambivalent (at best) company regarding the growing green philosophy. Now, however, they are nearing sainthood with the creation of this synthetic nylon made of organic materials. (Is that an oxymoron?)

Next up is Major League Baseball's aggressive business move to take control over who is watching them.

If the National Football League could do it, why couldnt the MLB? But instead of taking their games to different television networks, they're playing with the power of the internet to draw fans from around the globe - in different languages. I like the idea of on-demand game viewing. I can skip through the more boring parts of games I don't like, and just watch the best parts.

Lastly, we'll discuss a carbon-neutral Chinese island under construction.

Yes, you heard me right. This comes from the nation with the most pollutants, I believe. I like the idea, though, because it talks about the use of solar cells, and I also like the thought that goes into designing the city to maintain shade in certain places, reducing the need for costly temperature controls. But I won't say anything more - it will spoil the story for you.

And, speaking of China, I believe that the Chinese Podcasting Directory, Podlook, will be joining us at the Online International Podcasting Expo, October 20-22, 2006.

We're discussing the possibility of him putting together a team of Chinese podcasters to teach other Chinese nationals how to podcast, using our facilities during the Expo. Now, wouldn't that be cool? More about these things in future business Brain Storm! podcasts. Until then, keep brainstorming!!!

In today's business podcast, we will earn about remote controlled people, drugs developed from eggs and solar power coming to a city near you - all on Brain Storm!, your business podcast.

We are continuing to talk about new business technology, so we can stay ahead of the game and develop business strategies and innovative ideas to coordinate with what's coming around the bend.

Remote Controlled People - Good or Bad?

I thought of some great ways to utilize this GVS technology in combination with GPS, and keep people safer from known criminals. (You have to listen to the podcast to find out what it is, though!). The idea that electrical stimulation to the ear can affect where a person moves and how he feels fits perfectly into the next generation of virtual games as well. Orwellian or not, the technology is there...how will you profit from it?

Chickens Carrying Drug Antibodies

What if you could produce pharmaceuticals that detect cancer at half the cost? What if you could do it using chickens instead of cultures in labs? Well, that's what they're working toward. The only reason I could imagine the large companies not utilizing it is because they want to keep charging astronomical costs. Then again, that's only my humble opinion.

Solar Power is closer than you think...

It may begin in the Mojave Desert and power Los Angeles, but solar power may be coming to your city. Using ingeniously simple technology, including a Stirling engine the size of a motorcycle engine, solar energy could transform everything. We talk about what extrapolations can come from this.

Once again, let me remind you about the upcoming Women's Podcasting Expo, an oline event July 14-16, 2006.

You can visit the Virtual Podcasting Expo site and see how cool it is. You don't need a ticket to browse the booths or to attend a live podcast recording, or to chat with other people from around the world.

However, if you would like unlimited access to ALL of the seminars and networking events, including access to all of the recordings, before July 1st, tickets are only $20, and are still only $25 after that.

In today's business podcast, we will discuss the coolest new business technology innovations around!

As you know, the purpose of the Brain Storm! Business Podcast is to review and analyze new business technologies, trends, strategies and personalities. Then we take the lessons we learn and apply them to our own businesses, or create new businesses. Today's business podcast will give you a sneak preview of some upcoming technological developments that can benefit YOU.

Worldwide WiFi, Waterless Washing Machines, Robotic Skin, Nano Materials

We will talk about WiFi innovations that will allow anyone, anywhere in the world to connect via wireless broadband. The technology is 1/10th the cost and supports 1000 times as many users! To me, that means we should get ready to reach 1000 times more customers!!! hehehehe

What are the implications for washing machines that use ionized particles instead of detergent?

How about robotic skin that can tell pressure and temperature? Nano materials that are stronger than steel and can conduct energy? These are just a few of the inventions that today's business podcast will cover.

Once again, let me remind you about the upcoming Women's Podcasting Expo, an oline event July 14-16, 2006.

Inc's April 2005 issue had a great little article with a picture that pretty much told it all...it is about the coming of the microchip in everyday products, and how it will affect life as we know it.

Inc came up with the following new-fangled products and brainstorming ideas for products with chips in them...
  • Beer mug that alerts the bartender of an empty glass.
  • Credit cards that track spending and prevent fraud.
  • Baseballs that track speed.
  • Children's books that talk.
  • Tire valves that monitor pressure.
  • Globes that tell you geographical info.
  • Clothes that help keep inventory accurate.
  • Coffe Cups that warn of too hot or too cold temperature.
  • Video chip on golf bags to record your swing.

So I am going to have a contest for my listeners and readers. Submit your ideas for "chip" products in the comment section for this article or via phone at 214-231-2911 x. 4508. Describe the product's appearance and usage, and I'll list them next week. Then you get to vote on the best "chip off the old block"...I know, that was bad.

But best chip idea will win $25 sent to their paypal account.

I'm looking forward to checking out your ideas...let's see how well YOU brainstorm!

I would like to have a chip in my childrens backpacks that tell me if there are papers to sign and return, books to read, homework to be done, conferences or special events to attend and when library books are due.

Speaking of library books having a chip in each book (school or public library) that would remind me when they are due would be wonderful. No more overdue books. Most libraries already scan a bar code to check books in and out. A chip placed inside the spine could be coded upon checkout to remind the borrow of the due date.

TVEyes Announces Podscope®
The First Engine to Search Within a Podcast
Proprietary Technology Applicable to Video Blogs and Personal Videos

Fairfield, CT (April 11, 2005) -- TVEyes, the real-time broadcast search provider, today announced Podscope®, the first engine to search within a Podcast. TVEyes’ Podscope, which makes every word searchable within a podcast, enables the audio indexing of podcast content, which is equally applicable to video blogs and personal videos. Podcasts are essentially downloadable radio programs distributed through RSS that can be put onto a digital media music player or iPod. Podscope will be generally available later this month.

TVEyes, which has been indexing television and radio broadcasts since 1999, crawls the web with Podscope looking for podcasts and creates an index against every word, thereby making the contents searchable. The user can search on a term, generate a list of results ranked by a variety of methods to find the most relevant podcast and click to play or click to download.

“With a looming explosion in such user generated rich content as Podcasts and video blogs, there is a growing need to empower consumers to find and subscribe to programs that meet their diverse interests,” commented Allen Weiner, Vice President and Research Director at Gartner. “Searching and indexing these varied audio and video programs will not only benefit content-hungry consumers, it also adds legitimacy and velocity to this burgeoning space.”

About TVEyes

TVEyes, headquartered in Fairfield, CT, has been indexing television and radio broadcasts since 1999. It is the first company to deliver real-time TV and Radio search across multiple languages on an international platform. Services are provided to a wide range of users in both consumer and professional markets including Government and Law Enforcement Agencies. The company uses a range of proprietary technologies to index audio feeds that allow Radio and TV to be searched by keyword – just as you would use a search engine for text. The TVEyes Professional service offers personalization features and can be configured for large deployments in corporate environments. The technology is completely automated and all feeds are captured on a 24x7 basis. More information on TVEyes can be found at http://www.tveyes.com or http://www.podscope.com.
