Brain Storm! Business Podcast: News, Technology & Marketing

This week, I'm departing from the norm and sharing a new co-operative model of marketing on which I am basing Digital Business Books, which opened this week.

I've never enjoyed being a "solo"preneur.

I like working with other people, getting great minds together so I can learn from them, and also helping other people succeed. Some people get a kick out of that, and I'm one of them.

So Digital Business Books (DigBizBooks.com) is based on the premise that if you can get top quality, talented, knowledgeable and experienced entrepreneurs together, anything is possible.

And if you can put their combined knowledge in one place, you can learn more easily and quickly. And if the teaching is digitized for download, it's less expensive, and therefore more affordable for learner.

Today you will hear the marketing concepts I'm applying to this new business, which are derived from the input of many entrepreneurs, both experienced and novice.

This recording takes place in an interview setting with myself and 2 other entrepreneurs: Paula Langguth-Ryan, of the Art of Abundance, and Jerrilynn Thomas, the Founder of the IVWCC (International Virtual Women's Chamber of Commerce). In a presentation/Q&A session, we discuss the best ways to help entrepreneurs get known outside of their own limited networks, and help new entrepreneurs gain the knowledge they nee d to succeed without paying an arm and a leg.

We are still offering our Grand Opening Bonuses until Friday at midnight EST, so if you're interested, check it out, with business items starting at just $4.95, and our first free weekly publication: Goals - Getting From Here To There The Right Way.

Today we are talking about a case study found in Inc's April 2005 Issue where an inventor has the opportunity (and crossroads decision) of a lifetime.

Lance Fried has created the world's first waterproof MP3 player - nirvana for surfers, skiiers, swimmers, kayakers and other damp dwellers. He used his own funds and volunteering from his friends to make it happen, and when several "big box" retailers, like Best Buy and Bass Sporting Goods, found out about it, they wanted it on their shelves.

Sounds like a dream come true for Fried, right? Well.....

I was thinking of an idea to merge his water proof technology with USB hard drive technology, making it possible to plug in 128 mb sticks to 1GB usb flash drives. so a person could change out music as they see fit without losing music or selections they have combined.

Solve Poverty Profitably

C.K. Prahalad, a strategy guru from the University of Michigan believes that poverty can be solved while people make a profit from it at the same time. There is money to be made from the "lowest rungs of the economic food chain." In his new book, "The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid", he says that businesses are missing a huge opportunity.

The poor represent "$14 trillion in purchasing power, more than Germany, the UK, Italy, France and Japan put together." More interestingly is what they need...everything..."

Target vs. Walmart -- What's the difference, and why?

Target's success may be overshadowed by the legendary Walmart dynasty, but in actuality, it is creating phenomenal achievements in its own right.

Annual sales are larger than those of Coke and Pepsi combined

Shareholders have made 603% in the past 10 years.

Target dares to be different through trendy, distinct products.

The CEO pushes everyone to go the extra mile to find awesome products and continually redesign the way the stores look.

Target has not expanded beyond the US, nor mimicked the Walmart Supercenters and gone into direct rivalry with Walmart.

Target is the same size that Walmart was 10 years ago.

Target's original idea was to take high-end department store high-quality merchandise and sell it in its own discount stores. Their prices were slightly above the lowest sellers, and they offered everything imaginable, including artificial Christmas trees that no one thought would sell.

Though they started the same year as Kmart, Walmart
and Kohl's,

In an online article I read yesterday, I was pleased to see that my ideas aren't so off the wall after all.

HarperCollins is recognizing the need to do direct marketing with potential and present clients, as opposed to going the traditional route through other vendors. They are also moving into the digital download MP3 venue, as they realize that eventually, cassettes and even CDs will go the way of the LP. Digital download is the way audio books will be delivered, and eventually, straight from the publisher, just like at Encouraging Audiobooks.

They are also moving away from an author-centric brand to a publisher-centric brand, with the hope that people will eventually see that there is a [Read More!]
