INTERVIEW WITH DR FALCONER

Dr Falconer will be helping Kim and I out with some online classes at our Pet Chat at Co OpWorld beginning in Januray. Here is an interview Kim had with him that I wanted to share with you:

Will Falconer, D.V.M.

Certified Veterinary Homeopath

KB:

Hello Dr.
Falconer, and thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to participate in this interview. Before we get into some of the details of your practice and all that entails, would you please tell us a bit about yourself?

Dr. Falconer:

Sure, Kim. I began my career as a conventional veterinarian in 1980, and spent my first seven years in conventional medicine and surgery, using all the things I was taught in school and having some success. I especially enjoyed the farm part of practice where I delivered calves, did surgery on dairy cows who had twisted stomachs, and helped colicking horses. The small animal medicine was largely vaccinations and seeing a handful of illnesses, none of which were very satisfying to treat, as they often had chronic recurrences. Dogs that itched too much were given steroids which definitely turned off the itch. I didn't know about the price paid for suppression at that time.

Interview with Robert McDowell

Interview With Robert McDowell, Medical Herbalist

Jeannie:
Hi Robert, thank you so much for taking the time to do an interview with me! Please tell us a little about yourself and how you came to be a medical herbalist.

Robert: I was born in New Zealand and initially trained as a Mining Engineer. I worked on project design and financing, in South America and many other parts of the world. In my mid thirties, I was plagued with stress related health problems for which medical science offered no real help, I turned to alternative therapies which were immediately effective.

As a child I had watched my father, a Doctor in a small country town, and admired the personal care he gave beyond simply prescribing drugs. So when I moved to Australia, with these experiences behind me, I decided to retrain and was lucky enough to learn under Australia's internationally recognized herbalist Dorothy Hall.

My new direction set, I moved to Bathurst, NSW (a rural centre, 135 miles from Sydney, the Olympic city) and opened a full time Herbal Medicine practice. I began treating people, formulating mixtures (primarily of European herbs) and dispensing the same kind of common sense advice and compassion to my patients that my father did in his day, in the 1950's.

The practice expanded into new areas because my clients demanded that I turn my Herbal knowledge and experience to supporting the health of their animals. Over the decade and a half since then, we have grown into a world leader in the treatment of Canine Cancer and the hub of a new approach to Equine health, known as Herbal Horsekeeping.
