It's worth your time to listen to this podcast on the Role of Nutrition and Cancer. Dr. Sandy Bevacqua stated in the podcast the best way to avoid cancer is to have an alkaline diet.
Here is a list of foods ranked for alkaline vs acidic. Which foods do you put into your body??
This site is especially for people who are seeking answers about Shaklee products and business.
It's a fact of the natural healing profession for many years, and is recently being validated by the medical physicians, well over 90% of degenerative disease conditions can be related directly to intestinal stasis — meaning, a stagnant, fermenting condition within the bowels and related organs. This does not necessarily correspond to actual known constipation.
Someone can move his bowels many times a day, and still be encumbered with dead cells, decaying food materials, poisonous chemicals, parasites, pus, mucus, etc., all of which contribute to the circulation of toxins throughout the whole body, giving rise to an endless chain of “disease” conditions.
These facts should be taken into consideration when nutrition programs and vitamin therapy are introduced for the first time. The body’s response to a proper nutrition program is to start releasing stored toxins from the cells and this puts more stress on organs of elimination (colon, kidneys, lungs, liver, blood, and skin)
Many times these organs are already malfunctioning from past intake of drugs, additives, and refined, processed and overcooked foods. The result of this could be symptoms of nausea, weakness, headaches, rashes, and tiredness.
To prevent this from happening, Dr. Shaklee invented HERB-LAX, a combination of nine different herbs that help detoxify the body through better, more complete, elimination.
It is important to understand that herbs are not in any way related to the artificial colon—cleansers promoted online or in other media. Herbs do not act like ordinary laxatives that irritate the tissues and force the bowel to eject its contents. This weakens the organs and causes dependencies. But herbs, being a food, nourish the bowel and related organs to strengthen them so that they will function entirely on their own, effectively eliminating waste materials.
It is hard to say how many HERB-LAX an individual should use, since each person differs. Choose the dose that gives you two to three soft, easy bowel movements daily. This can range from one half to 30 per day (in the case of Diverticulitis).
Those who are faithful in using HERB-LAX for internal cleanliness will get surprising good side effects as days, weeks and months go by. These include a better complexion, no headaches, no bad breath, little odor during bowel movements, plus more energy and clearer thinking.
Herb Lax® You can hardly study the Shaklee product Herb-Lax® without gaining a profound respect for our founder Forrest C. Shaklee, Sr. What an amazing mind he had to conceive such a product at the time he did. Remember, interest in herbal medicines had waned considerably during the middle of the last century.
Shaklee Herb-Lax was the second Shaklee product he developed, and it has truly withstood the "test of time" remaining one of Shaklee's favorite products. Dr. Shaklee knew that proper elimination of waste from the bowel is one of the keys to optimal health. It is said that 90% of degenerative diseases are related to, or worsened by, the food we eat passing too slowly through our intestinal system.
The fact that Herb-Lax® contains Senna leaf powder and is therefore a laxative is a no-brainer. Practically everyone in the medical or herbal community would understand that. Dr. Shaklee made his signature product unique by blending an additional eight herbs with the Senna leaf powder to enhance its use - to speed up the movement of foodstuffs through the intestinal system.
DR Shaklee was able to accomplish this without the usual unwanted side effects of taking a laxative. Something to consider is the label states a serving size of four tablets. That would indeed cause a gentle bowel movement within several hours, by taking less than the serving size, you effectively speed up the flow of food and waste through the intestinal tract without causing diarrhea.
Why does herblax work the way it does? Certainly, several of the herbs contained in this product produce a laxative action. In addition to Senna leaf powder, buckthorn bark powder, licorice root, blue malva powder, and culver root all have shown some laxative action.
They do, however, along with the other herbs present, fulfill other functions within the GI tract to complete the action.
For example, licorice root, alfalfa, fennel seed and anise seed aid in digestion. Licorice root also reduces the production of stomach acid (good for heartburn?); and relieves gas, as does anise seed. Anise seed also acts to relieve stomach cramps. Rhubarb is unusual in that in can cause a laxative effect, and it has the opposite effect in small doses!
Bottom Line DR Shaklee knew what he was doing by combining all these natural herbs into one fantastic product called HERBLAX. Today it's still one of our best selling products. Why because it flat out works and it's very cost effective.
Healthy bodies crave sunshine for a healthy dose in Vitamin D, but to keep a buff body there is lots more to looking younger.
There is a lot of truth in this time tested, tried and true statement: you are what you eat. Not only can food today effect the state of your health on the inside but also the health of your skin.
People often forget the skin is an organ and needs proper nutrition in order to perform optimally. If you want the skin you remember from days long past, it is time to increase the amount of these anti aging foods in your daily menu.
1. Beans
This wonderful food is better than you may think for the state of your health and something that low-carb dieters miss out on. Beans are not only a high protein food but also a vitamin-rich veggie. These should be a staple on any anti aging diet because they are low fat, low calorie, high fiber, high complex carbohydrate, and contain a small amount of Omega-3 fatty acids in addition to the important protein. Another great source of fatty acids is this great tasting snack called Mighty Smart
2. Hot Peppers
Flavorful and full of zest, hot peppers are also excellent for your skin. These pepper contain capsaicinoids, which not only provide that kick of heat you love your peppers for but also amazing anti-inflammatory properties, analgesic effects, and heart-healthy, cancer fighting effects as well. Chillies are also an excellent source of vitamin C, antioxidants, and flavonoids
3. Yogurt
This incredible anti aging superfood makes the list for a reason. Some of the benefits include: anti-inflammatory, probiotic, and immune boosting just to start. It is also believed that regularly eating probiotic yogurt can aid in weight loss efforts.
4. Nuts
You'd have to be nuts to skimp on the nuts, no matter what the diet gurus are telling you. Seriously, nuts are filled with all sorts of health benefits that are great for your health and amazing when it comes to anti aging. Some of the benefits of nuts include: diminished risk of cancer, weight loss aid, reduce wrinkles and sagging skin, and reduce risk of heart disease and diabetes.
5. Grapes
Great sources of vitamins A, C, B6 and folate in addition to essential minerals like potassium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium and selenium. Grapes contain flavonoids that are very powerful antioxidants, which can reduce the damage caused by free radicals and slacken ageing. Grapes have vitamins, minerals, fiber and even proteins and could play an important role in ensuring a healthy, robust, youthful life
I personally eat lots of dried grape's (raisins) and don't miss my teaspoon of resveratrol anti aging tonic daily.
"What does the Shaklee Landmark Study have to do with the economy?"
It's all about getting the best value for the buck. Lets face it...Money is tight. Everyone is having to make tough choices about how they spend their money in today's economy. So, it's just natural to ask whether you should continue to spend money on your food supplements.
Well, you've heard the saying "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". The Landmark study shows just how true that is when it comes to taking food supplements.
Those people who consistently took the Shaklee food supplements for 20 years or more had 1/2 to 1/3 the incidence of coronary heart disease, heart attack, angina, congestive heart failure, stroke & emphysema - and an incredible 1/4 the incidence of diabetes - compared to people taking other brands of multivitamins or no vitamins at all.
Best of all you can get essentially all of the nutrients that the Shaklee group took in the Landmark study in the "Vitalizer Wellness Program" - Vitalizer, Cinch and Nutriferon - for less than one Starbuck's Latte and muffin.
And if you want to feel 25 years younger in the bargain, just throw in Vivix and you've got the "Rx for a Healthier Life".
Do you have any idea how expensive the alternative is? Just ask someone who suffers from heart disease, congestive heart failure or diabetes how much they pay for doctors and medications.
The co-pay is bad enough, but if you ever lose health insurance, the cost is catastrophic!
Here's another interesting fact from the Landmark study. The average age of the participants in that study was 65 and the average number of medications taken per person was 0.5.
Yes, you heard me right. Half of the people taking the Shaklee study were taking no medications at all.
That is amazing because the norm in this country is for someone at age 65 to be on 7 or 8 medications, and sometimes as many as 10 or 15.
Do you have any idea how much that many medications cost? Do you have any idea how bad you will feel if you take that many medications?
You see, the most impressive result of the study was that the people taking the Shaklee supplements just plain felt better than people taking other people's vitamins or no supplements at all. That comes under the category of PRICELESS!
So the next time you think of cutting back on your Shaklee supplements, you shouldn't be thinking of the savings - you should be thinking of how much it's going to cost you to do without them!
In today's economy we just can't afford to give up our supplements.

You’ve likely heard (through the grapevine) that grapes have healthy benefits, including those related to your heart. But a new study shows that the heart benefits reach much farther than previously thought. In addition to helping lower blood pressure, grapes may be able to reduce damage to the actual heart muscle.
Research has shown that eating grapes can reduce your risk of heart disease and heart failure due to high blood pressure. In fact, grapes may be able to prevent heart disease and high blood pressure even more than a diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables.
A recent study indicated that a diet rich in grapes has far greater benefits than just helping to lower blood pressure. This is due to the natural antioxidants, called phytochemicals, which can actually reduce damage to the heart.
The research was performed on lab rats for 18 weeks. Those who received a grape-enriched diet powder regularly had a better heart function as well as lower blood pressure than the rats that did not receive this substance. In addition, there was also less signs of heart damage for the rats that were eating the grapes.
The grape powder that was fed to the rats, according to the study, was made from green, red and black grapes. The effects of this grape powder were even more effective than blood pressure medicine, which did lower the blood pressure of the rats, but did not prevent heart damage. The study also indicates that grapes in the diet can also prevent clogged arteries, a common precursor to heart disease. According to the study, a diet in grapes can lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, cause less fat accumulation in the aorta and also cause less oxidative stress.
Seeds vs. Skins
There are two main components of grapes: the seeds and the skin. Most of the nutrients derived from grapes are derived from these two components. Grape seeds contain powerful antioxidants and are rich in vitamin C as well as vitamin E. Grape seed extract is available at health food stores in caplet form as well as liquid. It has been hailed as an effective way to help keep your circulatory system healthy.
In addition to helping your heart by lowering your blood pressure, grape seed oil can also cut your risk of obesity, skin cancer and leukemia, according to studies.
The flesh from the grapes contains resveratrol, also a powerful antioxidant. Research on resveratrol has indicated that it can increase the lifespan of human cells, can prevent the spread of cancer, lower the blood pressure, protect cells from free radicals and also keep your heart and blood vessels healthy. In addition, resveratrol has also been linked to balancing anti-inflammatory response and preventing Alzheimer’s disease.
The Sugar Factor
The only problem with consuming fresh grapes is that they are high in sugar and those who are overweight or have diabetes or other related conditions are often told to avoid fruits that are high in sugar. There is a way to get the benefits of grape seed oil and resveratrol without eating grapes, however. Both are found in supplement form and can help you get the health benefits of grapes without the sugar content.
In addition, red wine is loaded with resveratrol and studies indicate that those who drink a small amount of red wine a day can be doing their heart good. Dark chocolate and peanuts are also filled with this powerful antioxidant.
Good Grape!
You can get the health benefits of grapes naturally by eating fresh grapes, or you can take supplements such as grape seed oil and resveratrol in order to get all of the benefits of this heart-healthy fruit.
