PLEASANTON, Calif., Apr 21, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- As a socially-responsible company, Shaklee does not conduct animal testing, we have never conducted animal testing, and we will never conduct animal testing. We have never done business with any lab that conducts tests on animals.
Shaklee's corporate headquarters was bombed years ago by an individual who mistakenly targeted us for animal testing which had nothing to do with us or our products and was in fact conducted separately by a pharmaceutical corporation that owned Shaklee at the time (we have been independent since 2004). Unfortunately, the record of this misguided act of violence sometimes creates confusion that erroneously links our company with animal testing. Nothing could be further from the truth and we appreciate this opportunity to correct the record.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger marked Earth Day on Wednesday in part by helping Shaklee reach its goal of planting 1 million trees.
Schwarzenegger, in one of three Earth Day appearances, helped plant the 1 millionth tree at Shaklee. He was joined by Roger Barnett CEO and Wangari Maathai, founder of the Green Belt Movement and winner of the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize.
Maathai is the "global ambassador" for the company's "A Million Trees, A Million Dreams" campaign. Her group, based in Kenya, started in 1977 with tree plantings and is a way to empower women by getting them involved with the environment.
Shaklee the #1 natural nutrition comapny in the US makes vitamins, household cleaners and personal hygiene products. The company said that in 2000 it was the first company in the world to be certified as being "climate neutral" by the Climate Neutral Network, with the tree plantings being counted toward that effort.
With employees and their families gathered outside under sunny skies, the dignitaries shoveled dirt on top of a halfway-planted ginkgo tree, representing tree number 1 million.
The campaign, in which the company's distributors were encouraged to plant trees, started three years ago, with Maathai helping to plant the first tree on the company's grounds, said Roger Barnett, Shaklee's chief executive officer.
Schwarzenegger, said he and many other bodybuilders were very familiar with Shaklee products, and Shaklee was the outstanding company with products that many bodybuilders use. He also said 1 million trees would be enough to cover Disneyland 18 times. He added that it is important for everyone to get involved with helping the environment.
"That's what we want to do, make sure everybody's part of this," he said. He also touted the California's environmental efforts.
During the event, Maathai also received the company's first Eco-Entrepreneur of the Year award.
"We owe a lot to trees," she said. "We ought to have a lot of respect for the trees."
While traveling the Califorina by plane may not seem like the most environmentally conscious practice, Jeff Macedo, a Schwarzenegger press secretary at the event, said the governor pays for his own travel and purchases carbon offsets to make up for the impact.

Great Testimonial Story; How we successfully controlled the outbreak of MRSA (methicillin resistant staphlococcus aureus)

Staph Infections, and SHAKLEE solutions
Sometime during early 2002 it was revealed that there was a need to combat infections which were developing in some of the clients I was working with. This infection was MRSA. I am the director of nursing for this company. A program was established to implement the use of Shaklee Basic H and Basic G. I did not have the total support of all the directors of the organization. However we were able to stop the spread of the infection with this protocol. In a few short months another director stopped the use of the products. I was not happy with the decision but it was out of my control. Predictably another outbreak occurred.
September 23, 2003 I was driving down the freeway to visit with a state inspector that was requiring answers from me in person. My companion was in outpatient surgery having a procedure performed. One of my nurses called me to inform me that MRSA (methicillin resistant staphlococcus aureus) was rampant in our several of the group homes. The company provides services to the mentally challenged that live out in the community in group homes.
It was reported there were several employees that were hospitalized with the MRSA. They had wounds that had to be opened and drained. IV antibiotics were required to heal the wounds. We had several of the clients with the MRSA in four of the group homes. They had large wounds that were open and draining. Of course antibiotics were required. I about went crazy with this information. But instead I took a deep breath and put my brain in gear to decide what to do to get this under control.
Traveling at about 70mph I thought of Shaklee germicide cleaner, Basic G. It will eliminate the MRSA spread. My Shaklee representative, Phyllis Willkomm, was out of town. Fortunately she had a wonderful person, Jeanne, taking her calls. I immediately called her. We made a plan to obtain some Basic G that day. I picked it up that evening from her house.
The next day the CEO of the corporation flew over to our company. He brought the corporate nurse from the nursing home side of the business. We made the plans of how to eliminate the problem. The corporate officers were in total support of the of the Shaklee products to eliminate the MRSA.
The following day I called a meeting with all the management personnel of the company. Policies and procedures were implemented which included the use of the Basic G. They were instructed to clean everything except skin with Basic G. Detailed written instructions were given to everyone to follow. Phyllis also loaned several Air Source Units to us. I also brought my own from my home to place in the problem houses.
I had the maintenance crew go to all of the 19 group homes and spray with Basic G all over the house. This included the furniture, floors, beds, and appliances. Etc. They also sprayed where the clients attended the day program. They sprayed Basic G every Friday for a month in the houses and every day in the day program area after the clients went home.
I am proud to say there have not been any further outbreaks of the MRSA with any clients or employees. It took about a month to get all of them healed but there have not been any new cases.
Just a note, we even had a Monday that we had about twelve cases of upper respiratory infections (possibly flu) in the day program. We had the maintenance crew spray the areas with Basic G during the breaks and after the clients went home. The flu was stopped in its tracks. There has not been another case since.
The overall ramifications of this problem with the MRSA could be phenomenal for a company. The employees filed for workers compensation. The hospital bills were $10,000. This was not approved because it was unknown where it came from. Did they bring it to us or did they contract it from the clients.
The clients were not allowed to go to the day program while they had the open wounds. This involved overtime pay to staff to attend the clients at the home. The antibiotics were costly and sometimes would not be paid for by their Medicaid program. Therefore the company had to absorb the cost.
The staff persons who were hospitalized had to have their assignment covered therefore possibly cost overtime for this. Plus the labor intensifies for all personnel dealing with the problem.
The important thing we learned from all of this is “ an ounce of prevention goes a long way”. That ounce is Shaklee Basic G diluted, placed in spray bottles, and used everywhere.

When we decided to Go Green in our home a few years ago, little did I understand the health benefits we would receive and the money we would save? That was a real shocker! Then there was the effortless shopping and knowing that we were doing our part for a Green Environment. We started One Saturday morning with a lot of boxes, going through the house, one rule at a time. Anything that was not biodegradable, chemical and fragrance free went in the box. Later I also started looking into things that might have been tested on animals.
It shocked us to find we had filled so many boxes as we emptied out each room. Oh my, the money we had spent and not thought about. Once the house was absolutely clean of chemicals, and I mean really clean from chemicals and fragrances; we replaced everything with Shaklee Goes Green Environmentally Safe products.

When I saw this video all I could think of is how wonderful it is to be vibrant and healthy like the dancers in this video. Nothing is more important than your health.
Many times our mind plays an important role in our health.
A perfect example of this is Fred who went in for a routine exam. Now Fred is 75 years young and has never been sick a day in his life, but due to constant nagging from his wife who may as well live in the doctors office he went.
When routine blood work came back with a elevated PSA that's when all havoc broke loose. The doctor recommended he go in for a bioposy and his wife insisted too. Unfortunately the local hospital running the test couldn't get Fred in right away.
The earliest possible appointment wasn't for 6 weeks. Fred went home and started worrying what the biopsy would show. He went from an active 75 yr old who was an active gardener, to basically and feeble old man would could barely get up to sit in front of the television. When the day of the biopsy rolled around Fred looked like someone had just handed him a death warrant.
Fortunately Fred came through the biopsy surgery OK, but you could tell he still had the worry deep down of what test results would show. When test came back normal it was like Fred had gotten a new lease on life. He got home put his work clothes on and got busy living life again. I don't know how many folks have gone through what Fred did, but I do know it doesn't have to be like this.
Just recently New England Journal of Medicine concluded that screening for prostate cancer has little or no effect in prolonging men’s lives, and the risks posed by unnecessary treatment may outweigh the benefits of early detection. Imagine that!
In conclusion I encourage you to surround yourself with what makes you happy in life....
