Whether it is Credit Card Debt or any other Consumer Debt, the collection process is automated and so mechanical that if you are caught in its gears you are in for one of the worst experiences of your life. I was struck by the number of opportunities Capital One, in this case and several Collection Companies had to correct their errors but failed to listen to the consumer who was telling them that she was not the person they were looking for and that she did not have an account with Capitol One. It used to be a luxury to have a credit card. Now it seems to be a life raft to many Americans who are trying to stay afloat until the next paycheck.

I have four credit cards I have paid off at least three times in the last six years, promising myself to live on a cash-only basis. But I pull them out when I have to buy something that can't wait until payday
