I've just been so busy removing my sites from GoDaddy (I don't know WHERE they went wrong - greed maybe - but they are just a lost cause as far as I'm concerned) that I haven't had time to do anything else. Hence this explanation for why the regularly schedule Brain Storm Podcast is delayed. In the meanwhile, I'd love for you to check out the site and give me your feedback on it.I've started meeting with local community members through the Chamber of Commerce (if you have a local business but aren't a part of a Chamber, you are missing out on some great business opportunities), and I'm getting great feedback. People can't believe how inexpensive - and how fun - it is. If you know of anyone that might be interested in opening up an Online Community Magazine in their own community, please send them my way - and earn $500!People don't buy into these magazines with one red cent of their own - they just have to pre-sell a certain amount of listings. This shows us that they can do the job (network and get businesses involved), and also shows them that they are well-suited for it. So thanks for being patient with me this week - I'm just overloaded, staying up until 3am in the morning (it's 1:10am right now!) working on these sites. where we bring you hope and encourgement brought to you by Encouraging Audiobooks. With Easter just around the corner I wanted to share several messages with you until the end of April in order to help us focus on the true meaning of the Easter season being that of
the Cross and the power of the resurrection that is for each and every
one of us. Today I wanted to share with you a devotional I did last year on the Power of the Resurrection.
Power of
the Resurrection
“I want to know Christ and the power of His
resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in His suffering, becoming like Him
in His death, and so somehow to attain to the resurrection from the dead.” Philipians 3:10-11
As Christians, are we able
to speak as Paul does in Philipians? Too often we do all we can to avoid
sharing in His sufferings and we observe the law by our human effort rather
then allowing the Holy Spirit do the work. But the power in Christ’s
resurrection does not come without His suffering and the work of the Holy
Spirit. In order to attain this power of the resurrection in our own lives, there
are some very important conditions to be met
First we must die to
ourselves and our sinful nature. It’s a choice we make to no longer be slaves
to sin because “anyone who has died has been freed from sin” according to Romans
6:7. It is a choice we find we must make several times daily and for the rest
of our lives to be slaves to righteousness instead. We won’t always win this
battle within us but it does get easier to make the right choice the more we do
it and thanks be to God that sin is no longer our master and we are not under
law but under grace.
Second, we must live
according to the spirit. By first dying to our sin that once bound us, we have
been released from the law so we are able to serve in the new way of the Spirit
through our faith not in the old way of the law through our human effort. Those
who live according to the spirit have their minds on what the spirit desires
according to Romans 8:5 and where ever the spirit of the Lord is you will find
freedom no matter what trial you may be facing.
Third, we must be made new
in the attitude of our minds. Because our minds are our greatest battlefield we
should make every effort to have our minds set on what the spirit desires and on
things above, not on earthly things, thinking about whatever is true, noble,
right and pure. True freedom in Christ comes from within our hearts and minds, which
is why even a prisoner can experience freedom while behind bars. Therefore let
us transform our minds by meditating on the Word of God and His truth because the
mind controlled by the spirit is life and peace according to Romans 8:14.
By striving to meet these
conditions each and every day, it will become easier for you to truly be able
to speak as Paul does in Philipians and so begin to embrace your trials and
allow the Holy Spirit to do the work in you in order to attain the power of the
resurrection in your life. “The message
of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing but to us who are being
saved it is the power of God.” (1 Cor. 1:18 NIV)
Heavenly Father, I thank you for Jesus and the power
and freedom in the Cross. Help us to die to ourselves daily and allow the Holy
Spirit to do the work in us rather then by our own effort. Being made new in
the attitude of our minds by meditating on the Word of God. In Jesus name I
pray, Amen.
In closing, I leave you with
a question to ponder. What do I need to die to in order to let the Holy Spirit
work and reveal the power of the resurrection in my life?

In today's business podcast, we will start a series about the 100 most admired businesses in America and the world, and brainstorm about what we can learn from them to apply to our own businesses. Fortune has put out a list of their Top 100 Most Admired businesses, and today is an overview of some of those businesses, and why they are admired. The key word for these businesses seems to be "green", and that's not just for money. They are environmentally green, and people are appreciating that more and more. General Electric, a business which we have profiled before regarding their green status, started out as an EPA nightmare, but has applied their green philosophy to running their own business now.They are also working on developing products that make the rest of the world green, which is obviously winning them points. GE has made many modifications to their business over the years to keep up with the many changes in the world. Listening to people below top management has been one of those changes, showing that GE has moved into the forefront of the new model of doing business. Starbucks is at #2, and they are not only a green business, but they are 3rd World Nation friendly.I never knew that Starbucks pays fair market prices to 3rd World coffee growers. They don't take advantage of the farmers, like many of the other large companies. Such good will must not go unnoticed, and makes Starbucks that much more lovable in its customers' eyes. Toyota is also at the top of the list, and I never knew that they had started in the US Car Industry back in 1957 with a horrible flop of a car that they took off of the market in 1960.Everyone expected Toyota to just go home with their tail between their legs. Obviously, everyone was wrong. Toyota has forced the car industry to refer to GM, Chevy and Ford as the "Detroit 3" instead of the "Big 3" carmakers. I also loved the blunt honesty of Toyota when they said they are racing Camrys in the Nascar Nextel Cup to sell Tundras - because that's where their Tundra clientele is. Now, as a side note, my podcast sounds very rough today - due to a week from hell and stupidity on my end.This is made worse from the fact that someone left a very negative comment on one of my other sites about a poor sounding podcast (it was an interview, and the other person's connection was just plain bad). So please excuse the fact that the 2nd half sounds bad - I tried to clean it up so it was at least listenable, but I just didn't have time to do it again, with PodCamp Atlanta coming up this weekend. were Five country churches in a small TEXAS town:
The
Presbyterian Church ,
the
Baptist Church ,
the
Methodist Church ,
the
Catholic Church,
and
the Jewish Synagogue.
Each
church was overrun with pesky squirrels .
One day, the Presbyterian
Church called a meeting to decide what to do
about the squirrels. After much prayer and consideration they determined that
the squirrels were predestined to be there and they shouldn't interfere with
God's divine will..
In the Baptist
Church
the squirrels had taken up habitation in the baptistry. The deacons met
and decided to put a cover on the baptistry and drown the squirrels in it. The
squirrels escaped somehow and there were twice as many there the next
week.
The Methodist Church
got together and decided that they were not in a position to harm any of
God's creation. So, they humanely trapped the squirrels and set them free a few
miles outside of town. Three days later, the squirrels were back.
But
-- The Catholic
Church
came up with the best and most effective solution. They baptized the
squirrels and registered them as members of the church. Now they only see them
on Christmas and Easter
Not
much was heard about the
Jewish
Synagogue,
but
they took one squirrel and had a short service with him called circumcision and
they haven't seen a squirrel on the property
since.

Click here to listen to the podcast.In today's business podcast, we will discuss what I have termed the "Salon Business Strategy", or how beauty salons make great money by giving away "free" services.
Today's brainstorming session revolves around actual personal experience, instead of business news. A friend gave me a coupon for a "free" cut and color, which the beautician had given to her when she had the same service done for herself. I went in for a pre-coloring consultation and walked out with $100+ of hair treatments to "prepare" for the coloring. I knew what was happening, but was intrigued with the business process I was participating in. (Plus, it was all money-back guaranteed if I wasn't happy with it, so I could take it all back if I wanted.)
I realized the power of getting your clients to bring you new clients by offering something of value for free, and making your money back by products instead of services.
So I wondered how this could be applied to the Brain Storm! Business Podcast listeners, as well as myself. The bottom line was a multi-step strategy that, if thought through, could be helpful for many of us. The abbreviated version is:
- Offer something of REAL value for free.
- Get your present clients to find new customers by giving this freebie away.
- Offer consumables that are peripheral to or required for your service.
We also return to the "passion" part of business, and the truth that people will pay for things they are passionate about.
I used my late birthday jaunt to Circuit City as an example of passionate purchasing. Whether it is car parts for a 56 Chevy or some new gadget for your computer, everyone has a hot spot, and they are willing to pay money for it. For others it is clothes, shoes, nails and hair. Find the right passionate target market, and things will go well for you.
As the Eagles asked, "Did you do it for love? Did you do it for money?"
The hot spots are money, love and health. If your business is in one of these areas, then it should be easier to convince people if your product or service is real and effective. Take the sales classes I bought because they were created by a guy with a 100% sales call success rate. Convince me you have the answer to my problem, and I'll fork over money, hand over foot!
So listen in as we brainstorm about what you can give away, how to get clients to give it away, and what you can sell them while they're takin' what you're givin'.

titled I’ll Do it Myself. She has been
an incredible inspiration to me and I’m sure she will be to you as well learning
about her life and all she has been able to accomplish despite living with
Cerebral palsy. She is currently on a 40
blogs in 40 business days virtual book tour.
Well Welcome
Glenda. I want first start out by saying
that it is a great honor to be a part of your virtual book tour and it has been
such a blessing to have met you - you truly are an inspiration and I would love
to give our listeners a chance to get to know you as well so can you start out
by giving our listeners some background information about yourself?
Thank you, Lori. I live in Surrey, just outside of Vancouver, British
Columbia. I
have cerebral palsy caused by a lack of oxygen at birth. For me, cerebral palsy is mainly a lack of
muscle coordination and balance. I am
unable to walk without falling every few steps, which doesn't tend to get me
very far, very fast, thus I use an electric scooter for mobility. I have limited hand function, relying on only
my left thumb to type. However, my biggest
frustration is my unclear speech as I speak Glenda-ish, which few people take
the time to understand. This is why I’m
using Kate, my synthesized voice for this interview.
Despite my cerebral palsy, I have led a fairly normal life, attending regular
class in my local high school and then going on to Simon Fraser
University. After seven years of living independently on
campus and typing all my papers and exams with my left thumb, I graduated with
my Bachelors of Arts with a major in psychology and a minor in communications.
I have been married eight years now to a wonderfully supportive man Darrell,
who also has cerebral palsy, which makes life twice as interesting!
And, I’ve recently released my autobiography I’ll Do It Myself in which I
intimately share my life to show others that cerebral palsy is not a death
sentence, but rather a life sentence. I
focus on what I can do and what I do have; so many have much less than I do. I
believe in possibility thinking and making things happen for myself. I am in a
point in my life where life is good and I truly believe the future is mine.
2. And How have you managed to lead a fairly
normal life with your disability as you said?
When I was young, my parents' philosophy was to introduce
Glenda to the world and the world to Glenda. My parents encouraged me, telling
me that I could do anything that I put my mind to. They told me there was no such word as can’t;
only try, and to always try my best.
They were always supportive no matter what I wanted to try, whether it
was going to Brownies, starting horseback riding, leaving for university,
getting married or buying a condo. That
encouragement and support led me to lead a fairly normal and full life, despite
my physical limitations.
3. Your parents philosophy obviously was a good
thing in your life and really is a great philosophy all parents should be
teaching their children. Can you recall when and how you personally began
to get such a fierce determination yourself to accomplish your goals in life?
One of course in particular for this blog interview being your book titled
"I'll Do It Myself".
I think I have always been determined and fiercely
independent, always preferring to do things myself.
I would like to share one story from my autobiography:
At Brownie camp Mom learned an
important lesson: to sit on her hands as I tried to do something by myself,
even if it took me longer to accomplish. Like most moms, time was in great
demand. She worked full-time, raised four kids and kept the household running,
and she didn’t always have the luxury of time to allow me to do something
myself that she could do more quickly. However, she knew it was critical to
allow me to do what I could myself, even if it took longer, in order to develop
independence.
The Guiders taught Mom to sit on
her hands whenever possible rather than rushing in to do things for me, but
reality meant some compromises. On school day mornings, when timing was down to
the minute, she dressed me. But, on weekends when we didn’t have to be anywhere
early, I dressed myself, even though it could take half an hour or more. Who
invented socks anyway? They were always a struggle, but I managed to get them
on eventually. Because I preferred doing things myself rather than having
others do them for me, I was nicknamed the “I’ll-do-it-myself” girl.
I have no doubt that that strong sense of independence has
helped me get to where I am today. When
it came time to decide upon a title for my book, I’ll Do It Myself was the
obvious choice.
3. You sure have had to overcome some big
obstacles in your life in order to achieve what others can do more easily but
many don't because they allow excuses and circumstances to keep them from
achieving their goals.
What inspirational
Word for the Week can you give to our listeners in order to encourage them to
stop making excuses and to just be determined to make it happen regardless of
their circumstances and how things may look?
Perseverance. To me, perseverance means to keep going, no
matter what. To do whatever it take to complete a task, to accomplish a goal or
to reach a dream. To ignore naysayers and negative attitudes. To find creative
solutions to navigate around barriers and obstacles.
When circumstances seem tough, remember Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through
Him who strengthens me."
And Luke 1:37, which says, "For nothing will be impossible with God." I would have to say
Perseverance is a great Word for this Weeks Word for the Week. We all could use
more perseverance in our lives and to stand on the promises of God in Phil.
4:13 and Luke 1:37 as you have shared in order to help us accomplish our goals
and make sure we don’t give up on them when things get tough. Thank you so much Glenda for allowing us to
