What's Next: Why It’s Pouring VC Cash, Business 2.0, January/February 2005 (click to listen to audio)

Point 1: Have you been looking for Venture Capitalist to invest in your upstart business? Well guess what, the tide has turned and now VC’s are looking for businesses to invest in. According to Business 2.0, “money raised in 2000…will be closed to new investments after 2005…” So now is the time to look for investors ready to invest.

Point 2: What are you waiting for? So hop on the train and start researching about VC’s. The hot industries include “wireless networking, e-commerce, voice over Internet, or mobile content," according to Business 2.0. Are you in one of these industries? If so, then VC’s are looking for you.

Point 3: As reported by Business 2.0, the total venture capital raised since 1993 was $282.3B and fees collected by VCs was $28.2B. The total available venture capital was $254.1B and the amount of venture capital invested from 1993-2003 funds was $240.6B. And the total overhang or overage is a whooping $13.5B. Are you missing out on potential funding for your business?

Point 4: What are some examples of hot commodities? Glad you asked because according to Business 2.0, two examples of companies being wooed by VCs is Flickr a popular "photo-sharing-meets-social-networking site based in Vancouver, British Columbia", and "Voice-over-IP provider Vonage." These two examples are just the start of a list of Internet based companies that VCs are wanting to invest in. Do you think that vesting in Internet businesses is back on the map? Let's watch for more details regarding this opportunity.

Strategy Guru note: I feel that from an entrepreneur’s point of view that accepting assistance from VC’s is a wise thing to do if you want to grow your business rapidly. Simply because it could bring in a steady cash flow which may free up funds to invest in new projects or hiring new staff as your business is enlarged. But just remember that along with VC funding comes the potential loss of some control of your business. Are you prepared for this and are you willing to give up some of the control.

To find out the secrets of the "smart companies" who have positioned themselves to become their industry's leaders, go to the Brain Storm! Preview Channel.

Le Cafe de Cadix,
by Pierrette Lili Camps Komarek.

Listen to streaming audio here.

Le Cafe de Cadix is the author narrated, humorous and touching memoirs of a "pied noir", a French Algerian, named Pierrette Lili Camps Komarek.

It is, in many ways, a tribute to her mother and father, Rose and Salvador, two orphans who, against all odds, raised 2 girls, 2 twin boys (one of which was mentally handicapped and blind), and daily lived the biblical truth "love your neighbor as yourself", even while trying to survive the Depression and the War.

It contains the tale of the romance of her parents, as well as the love story between herself and her blue-eyed GI. It includes many colorful and touching characters from her past, from the poor Jew Shlomo who was her father's closest friend, to Moustache - who bore a handle-bar of grand proportion, to Madame Elkaim, the Jewish next door neighbor who did for her what her own mother was too busy to do, and the American soldiers whose generosity and kindness changed her life.

It will make you laugh and cry, and you will listen to it again and again, because as Le Cafe de Cadix magically transports you to Algiers, Oran and Bougie, it lifts your spirit and proves that it is possible to live a meaningful life that will positively affect the generations to come.

Hear what people are saying about Le Cafe de Cadix...

After reading Pierrette's fascinating, revealing, amusing, delightful book, I didn't think I could be more pleased, but this is a unique piece of artistry. Voices are so important, if only because there are so few pleasant ones. Pierrette might have been an actress! To hear so many trenchant and funny and wise remarks in her dulcet tones is a special treat. I hope she will have as many listeners as readers. She deserves every one.

I didn't know Angel's had such beautiful accents. I shall rest peaceful tonight after listening to Pierrette's book.

One of the things I am most thankful for in writing my own book is my contact with Pierrette Komarek. In this world of humdrum thoughts and communication, she is a refreshing voice to be heard. It is obvious why her family is so very proud of their "Grandmere" with the beautiful story she has written in book and now shares in her own charismatic style (with just a touch of charming accent).

I have not had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Komarek in person, however, I have spent the past several months chatting with Pierrette on an authors message board and via email. What an amazing woman! My admiration for her has since grown stronger since listening to her life's story on these audio tapes.

Pierrette's story is heartwarming, funny, and oh so real! She has a way with words that will make you feel like you were a part of her life's experiences.

Thanks to the publisher(s) for finely bringing Ms. Komarek's work out for public viewing!

Lessons Learned about Chinese Culture from Chinese MBAs

1) You must be patient when dealing with new ideas in China. "China is taking the path of gradualism" in its economic reform." "Grassroots companies are China's future. They're growing fast, and their leaders are clever visionaries. These companies have long been denied access to capital markets. No more."

2) Chinese people are very protective, especially since they usually have only one child, and that child is the center of their world. Want to sell something to Chinese parents? These are the two things they want the most...
