Green Tea's Cancer-Fighting Allure Becomes More Potent

Saturday, September 18, 2004
Green tea’s ability to fight cancer is even more potent and varied than scientists suspected, say researchers who have discovered that chemicals in green tea shut down one of the key molecules that tobacco relies upon to cause cancer. It’s a find that could help explain why people who drink green tea are less likely to develop cancer.

Bone Cancer in Dogs and Cats

Friday, September 17, 2004
Cats and Dogs differ in the way bone cancer matures and how treatment should be administered. Because of the rapid nature of osteosarcoma, treatment should be sought as soon as possible. The only trouble is that the most common sign, lameness and pain usually happens when it is already taken firm hold. It is also mistaken by owners at first as arthritis, stiffness or pulled muscle in which veterinarian care is usually not immediately sought.

Osteosarcoma is the most common long bone tumor in dogs and cats. This is a very aggressive tumor causing lysis (disintegration of bone) or bone production or both. There is some degree of soft tissue involvement and metastasis (transfer of the disease to another part of the body) is common in the early part of the disease. [Read More!]

The Importance of Digestive Enzymes and Probiotics

Friday, September 17, 2004
Does your pet have digestion problems, diarrhea, skin problems, food intolerances, or other chronic health problems? Supplement with a high quality pet probiotic to restore your pet’s healthy gut, and chances are you’ll improve your pet’s health.

A probiotic, sometimes referred to as good or friendly bacteria, is a microorganism necessary for a healthy and balanced intestinal tract. There are two types of bacteria found in the intestinal tract, good and harmful bacteria. Good bacteria, or probiotics, ensure good health as they are absolutely vital to help the following conditions: [Read More!]

Why is Cancer Killing Our Pets?

Friday, September 17, 2004
Over the past decade or so, many veterinarians have become increasingly convinced that a number of vaccines are doing more harm than good for our animal companions. Some remain necessary, even mandated by law, such as rabies. But not all the annual boosters that have been traditionally given now appear to be necessary and they may be leading to several diseases.

Perhaps the most shocking and informative book about the pet food industry is Ann Martin's "Food Pet's Die For", published in 1997. As Dr. Michael W. Fox, vice president of the Humane Society of the United States, says, "Ann Martin is to the pet food industry what Rachel Caron was to the petrochemical-pesticide industry." Martin spent seven years investigating the commercial pet food industry and what she uncovered isn't pretty. There are several reasons you really do not want to feed your dog or cat commercial foods. Perhaps the most compelling moral reason is that there are rendered, euthanized pets in much of this food. [Read More!]

Epilepsy/Seizures - Causes, Predisposing Factors and Treatment

Friday, September 17, 2004
Epilepsy is a non-diagnosis. It is a term used to mean "fits" (or seizures) due to unknown reasons. The term epilepsy is used when available laboratory tests cannot account for the abnormal clinical signs. Causes of seizures are very often not known, but can be due to metabolic abnormalities, low calcium in lactating animals and low sugar in puppies and kittens; toxins (internal or external), tumors, central nervous system inflammation, injury, malformations and food poisonings. Most commonly, seizures in younger and middle-aged animals are due to parasites combined with a poor diet. [Read More!]

The Scoop on Poop

Thursday, September 16, 2004
Though it's the opposite end of nutrition, checking your pet's stool can help you and your veterinarian decide if your animal companion has any health issues that need addressing. What may seem like an offensive pile of feces can actually shed light on your pet's internal functions.

The first sign of health issues is the form of the stool. If it's liquid or loose (overly soft), there's something happening inside the pet. Other examinations and tests can assess exactly what may be wrong.

Another sign that the animal isn't in optimal health is if there's a covering over the stool that looks like plastic food wrap. This means that there is an irritation within the digestive tract. If it only occurs occasionally, then harsh snacks or plants are usually to blame. This condition may be more common in younger animals while they're teething, which results in chewing on and ingesting extraneous material. [Read More!]

How to Give Herbs to Pets

Thursday, September 16, 2004
Having used herbs and supplements since 1982, before there was a market for "natural pet products," we've always adapted whatever the product was to the pet. Considering the cautions mentioned below, you can use any herbal formula for a pet that you would use for a human, adjusting the dosages as indicated below. With that in mind, you don't have to limit yourself to what is available in the pet line. Since the formulas I've been using have been working for so many years, I haven't changed even though I can now by products specifically made for pets. [Read More!]

Feline Leukemia (FeLV)

Thursday, September 16, 2004
FeLV, a retrovirus, is the most important infectious disease agent producing fatal illness in domestic cats today.

The feline leukemia virus is excreted in saliva and tears and possibly the urine and feces of infected cats. Prolonged, extensive cat-to-cat contact is required for efficient spread, because the virus is rapidly inactivated by warmth and drying.

A cat with FeLV disease may live for several weeks to several months, depending on how advanced the disease is at the time of diagnosis. However, it is impossible to tell how long any particular cat will survive. [Read More!]

Bach Flower Essences for Pets

Thursday, September 16, 2004
Flower essence therapy works on a similar mechanism as homeopathy. Parts of the flower are diluted and then potentised to become effective. The flower essences are found in liquid form. Thus, the remedies work on an energetic level, similar to homeopathy, acupuncture and Reiki. They affect the mental and emotional parts of our being. Dr. Bach felt that physical illness can be caused by emotional upset and by fixing the emotional balance the physical illness disappeared. [Read More!]

Precious Pets

Thursday, September 16, 2004

Welcome to PreciousPets News!  My name is Bree Weasner Prive, and I've been bringing pet owners like you valuable information on pet nutrition and natural & holistic alternatives to conventional pet care since 1999.  We are proud to bring you PreciousPets News via syndication!

Pictured to your left are my three passions, Zeus (7), Max (6 months) and Alli (5).  I've been owned by Boxers for over 17 years now and am obsessed with this silly breed.

My 'all natural' journey began in May of 1999, when I lost one of my Boxer girls to bloat/torsion.  To my horror, I learned that one of the reasons my special girl left me was because of the horrid, popular commercial food I was feeding her (and my other Boxers) over the years.  Needless to say, I was totally horrified that I had been feeding my precious babies toxic chemical preservatives, by-products not fit for human consumption, euthanized animals, road kill - the list goes on...  It was during this time in my life that I went all natural myself with my Boxers, and have become a very active advocate in teaching pet owners everywhere, the dangers of commercial pet food, and the benefits of feeding all natural, including raw food, which I believe is best!

All the products I offer on my website have been thoroughly tested by myself (yes, I taste and try everything) BEFORE they get the final approval by my Boxers.  I also offer several human products (that I take myself) that are just as healthy and superior for our precious pets as they are for us (OmegaRx Fish Oil, SeaHealth Plus and 4Life Transfer Factor Plus Advanced).  Why not take care of ourselves as best as we can, because without us, where would our precious pets be today?

Because YOU Love your Pet, PreciousPets.org is dedicated to offering only all natural, holistic and high quality pet care alternative products for dogs, cats, horses, exotics and most animals.  We are proud to represent the highest quality, natural pet product lines as HealthyPetNet Life's Abundance (formulated by holistic veterinarian Dr. Jane Bicks), Oma's Pride Raw and Freeze-Dried, Flint River Ranch, Dr. Harvey's and The Honest Kitchen.  In addition to natural food for your pets, we offer a fabulous line of other natural products including treats, vitamin supplements, natural flea remedies, herbal wormers, digestive enzymes, arthritic support, herbal shampoos, an assortment of herbal remedies for all types of ailments, skin and coat products, and much more! We care as much about your pet as you do!
