"I always start with a title, even before I begin writing" - Lee Kernaghan
The song title is a songwriters best friend. It can encapsulate the whole song in a few well chosen words.
This exercise is also a great example of a powerful technique called brainstorming.

Observation and Mindfulness.
These are the two skills that are so important for a songwriter to get more out of their chosen craft. We look at the world through our own eyes (our own camera lens) and perceptions based on our experiences in life and the best thing that we can do for our songwriting is to slow down.

Never throw anything away, ever.
You never know, that piece of paper you threw in the bin might have contained THE song that defines you as a performer, artist or writer. It might have needed a few drafts but it still could've been there.

Start it today
A couple of articles ago I put forward the suggestion that starting a journal would be a great way to silence your inner voice. How are you going with that?Seriously though, winning the conversations in your head is one of the main keys to getting the most out of your songwriting and starting a journal is one of the best strategies for doing that.
