While not technically a scam, it's my opinion that this type of trading is scummy! I did a search for a new domain a while back and saw that it was already registered. However, it was due to expire on May 7, 2004. So I watched it. On May 6th, it hadn't been renewed, so I thought it might be a good idea to put in a backorder against the name. The process that a registrar goes through when a domain expires sometimes takes several months. That I thought, would be okay and getting this domain would be worth the wait. I lost the chance on May 8th when I got the notice that the domain had been renewed. However, I was surprised to find that it had not been renewed by the original owner.
