10 Easy No-cost, Low-cost Search-Engine-less Secrets
to Snag Targeted Two-Eyed Traffic
by Steve Boutelle 2004
"Did he just say "Search-Engine-less?" I sure
did. You don't have to be tied to the ever-present
(and always changing)search engines to get the
website traffic you need. While search engine
positioning is no problem for corporations with
deep pockets, the current paid submission and
pay-per-click craze can get mighty expensive
in a hurry for the rest of us.
Have you ever wondered if there was an easier way to
get the traffic you want to your site that by-passed
the SE's? Well I'm happy to report to you that there
is . . .

Issue #79 - 01/28/04 Publisher: Cathy Carlton
Hi Everyone!
I've been participating in various Quikonnex publisher forums over the past week
and I found out just how awesome Quikonnex can be. Unfortunately, I also found
that I was really messing up my channel postings. If you revisit links posted 1/21 and
earlier, you'll notice I have changed them quite a bit. All the information is still accessible using the links, but I had to pare things down to make them fit the allocated webpage space
and load faster. By simplifying things, my pages become more viewer-friendly, meaning more people are able to easily read and even utilize my pages. (Yes, that's a good thing!)
The items that used to be in my Recommended Corner section are now included in the Quikonnex sidebar. This makes my life MUCH easier because all I have to do is update
the linked document and the info changes across the board. No more worries about updating a hundred ba-jillion pages when something changes! LOL!
In the spirit of simplifying things, I've decided to start publishing a bit differently than
before. In the email publication world, you tend to load everything together then
send a "big bang" email for each issue. With Quikonnex, all of you decide when you want
to read my postings anyhow, so it really doesn't matter whether I format and post things
every Wednesday or every day. So I'm going to start posting articles and announcements as they come to me...and as I have time! LOL! You can choose to read them at your leisure. So after this issue, look for more frequent posts as opposed to the single issue format.
In order to help you decide what to read, I'm creating multiple categories to which I'll assign
my posts. You'll recognize the various "Corners"....Community, Learning, Motivational and Coaching. I'm also adding a Billboard category where I'll post general announcements and advertisements as appropriate. If there are other categories you want me to add, let me know. I want my channel to be viewer-friendly and I'm ALWAYS open to suggestions!
By the way, I do accept articles, hints and tips from Carlton's Corner viewers. I'd love to
have the chance to post your contributions. You can send smaller items to me via
QMTP Me, but it's probably best if you submit larger articles and
contributions to me
via email .
You'll notice, also, that I'm going to start posting only to my QChannel, providing links
to my posted items from the
Current Issue Page of my website. This will eliminate the need
for creating two different documents and give me more time to sift through the article
submissions!
If you're reading this and you're not subscribed via Quikonnex yet,
visit my
My Subscribe Page to find out how to get started. Questions,
problems or feedback?....

How Well Do You Know Your Partner?
By Dave Turo-Shields, ACSW, LCSW
For my birthday last year my wife made up a beautifully framed
picture of my name, and then underneath it she listed 32
positive qualities I possess. Needless to say, it was one of the
finest gifts I have ever received. Some of the qualities even
taught me about me. After that wonderful gift, my wife, son and
daughter (kids are 6 and 4 years old) put together a similar
"Greatest Daddy" list for Father's Day last year that warms my
heart to this day. It lists both behaviors and personal traits
of me as a father.
Today's topic is around this very thing. how well do you know
your partner and how well are you known by your partner?
Usually there's a passionate fire early in the relationship,
which brings a desire to know everything about your new partner
that there is to know. This is wonderful and a great way in
which to become acquainted with one another. All good beginnings
usually have many question and answer sessions. As you come to
know each other at deeper and deeper levels, you become close
friends.

Indoor Winter Fun
By Deborah Shelton
Tell the cold weather to take a hike, and get ready to have
some fun!
* Winter Beach Party
Bring that fun-in-the-sun feeling into your home with a
winter beach bash. Spread beach towels on the living room
floor; wear your swimsuit and a pair of flippers (why
not?); feast on hot dogs; make castles out of clay and play-
dough; and don't forget to take pictures!
* Winter Word Race
Challenge your friends and family to a race of the minds.
Set a kitchen timer for one minute. When the time starts,
write down as many winter-related words as you can think
of. The winner gets a cup of hot cocoa and the chance to
choose the next word race topic.
* Balloon Drop
Who doesn't love a good balloon game? Arrange players in a
circle and have them number off. The player with the
highest number is "It". "It" stands in the center of the
circle, and calls out a number while dropping an inflated
balloon. The player with that number must catch the balloon
before it reaches the floor. If the player catches the
balloon, "It" calls another number. But if the balloon
touches the floor, then that player is "It" and the game
continues.

USING YOUR WEB SITE TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS
By Charlie Cook
A snowplow operator in a New Jersey suburb was hailed by a
woman asking him to plow her driveway so she could get out.
Wading through less than a foot of fluffy snow to her SUV,
he asked her why she didn't put it into four wheel drive
and simply back out. Her puzzled answer was, "Four wheel
drive, what's that?"
A web site is just a means to and end, like a car it will
get you where you want to go only if you know how to use
it. Too often independent professionals and small
business owners spend their hard earned cash on a web
site and get little return on their investment.

Hi Everyone!
As usual, it's been a busy week. It's the price you pay for
taking vacation, right? After the holidays and vacation, it's
tough to get caught up and back on track, but I'm almost there!
I haven't had a chance to upload vacation pics, but here's one I
thought you might enjoy:
I took this shot on the last evening of my vacation. We had gone to Goose Island
State Park (Lamar, TX) and tried to fish, but nothing was biting. It was pretty
chilly too, so we stowed the fishing equipment and we were just about to leave,
when I turned around and saw this spectacular sunset across Copano Bay. I have
dozens of shots spanning the 20 minutes just before the sun fell into the water!...
Here thar be monsters!....Aye Matie!.......
Ooops! Wrong story!
Sorry about that.
We watched Pirates of the Carribean this weekend!
Now back to reality......
It's been just a couple of weeks since I officially moved Carlton's Corner
over to Quikonnex. The viewership has been s-l-o-w-l-y growing as more subscribers
brave the waters of the new technology and venture into QSubscribership.

Hi Everyone,
Some of you may have seen my message on my subchannel, so please pardon the duplication. To the rest of you, please read on ....
As a former member of nearly a dozen email ezine co-ops, I know the value of co-ops in terms of helping grow subscribership and bringing in some extra income. From an advertiser perspective, ezine co-ops are a cost-effective and time-saving means of managing your promotions. It's an easy way of getting your ad published quickly by a team of reputable, professional publishers.
I realized that there's no advertising co-op yet for QPublishers, so I'm planning to start one.
Whether you're a publisher interested in participating in the "Q-Op", as I'm calling it, or an advertiser interested in a pioneering advertising medium, please QMTP me if you're interested.
If you're still reading, you're either interested, curious or just flat bored! LOL! Whatever the case, here are some of my thoughts...
Unlike the strictly email co-ops, our Q-Op ads would be posted on our channels and will remain there until that posting is physically deleted (recommend a minimum of 30 days) or archived by Quikonnex.
Of course, many of us, myself included, have been publishing online for some time now and never really promoted this benefit to our advertisers, right? So that means many publishers will be posting to their QChannel AND to their website! That means the ads will have long term exposure, unlike the one-shot email ezine ads.
The ads will most likely be paid. Since there's really no way to monitor subscribership (don't worry, the view statistics are much more realistic anyhow!), it doesn't make sense to clutter up our QChannels with freebie ads. That gives the ads that are published a better chance of actually being seen and read.
Right now, I'm soliciting interest and working out details. Again, QMTP me if you're interested. Please let me know whether you're a publisher or prospective advertiser.
I hope to hear from you!

Hi Everyone!
It's hard to believe that we're almost halfway through the first month of 2004.
Time just flies, doesn't it? I hope the New Year finds each of you healthy,
happy and prosperous!
We had a nice vacation. It was too short, as always!
The weather was great the first and last day of our stay down on the Texas
Gulf coast, but it was uncharacteristically nasty the rest of the time.
It was cloudy, rainy, drizzly, misty, cold, damp, wet, yucky....etc.
On the bright side, I wasn't in Dallas and I wasn't at work! I try to remind
myself that, "A Bad Day in Rockport is better than a Good Day in Dallas!".
Besides, we didn't feel like we were missing any quality weather time when we took
a couple of days to paint the ceiling in our "little house". We tried to fish,
but never got a single nibble, at least not any serious nibbles - just bait stealers.
Naturally, the weather cleared and we had gorgeous blue skies
for our drive home! We'll try again in April...or maybe sooner, depending on
my employment status! LOL! We did manage to get some cool sunset and wildlife
photos. I'll try to get a few digital pics uploaded later this week, so look
for a notification from me. If you're using Awasu, you can get instant
notification of my channel updates. If you're using QuikView, you
have to come looking for them, so don't forget!
I'd like to get some feedback from those of you who took the time to follow me
in this new publishing journey. If you have any suggestions, requests, or feedback
regarding the format, frequency, content, articles or any other aspect of Carlton's Corner,
please
QMTP Me!
In the meantime, I have made a few minor changes to Carlton's Corner. First of all, since the
only contest I'm running right now is the Classified Corner Contest, I decided to
move the winner's ad front and center - right in the middle of Publisher's Corner,
as added incentive. In keeping with the email-free theme, I've changed the
entry link so you can submit your entry via QMTP instead of email. I removed Announcement
Corner since I'm not running any paid ads right now and I moved a few other sections around a bit.
Nothing major, but I'm in a changing mood, so send in your comments, suggestions, etc.

Congratulations to Contest Corner winner ... S.A. Mitra (bunnybiz@...).

Hi Everyone,
I'm on vacation this week and I don't have access to my home email box. One of you wrote requesting info on whether Quikonnex is MAC compatible. It seems that the question is really whether Awasy is MAC compatible. Below is the response from the QSupport team:
PM: Cathy, Awasu is not MAC compatible, however, if the MAC user is using a Netscape, Mozilla, or Firebird browse then QuikView will work for them. Additionally, if they want something similar to Awasu, the AmphetaDesk viewer will also work on the MAC. There are other viewers that will also work with the MAC, but I'm not a MAC person and am not familiar with them all.
----End of support response.
Now, if you are a MAC user and want to use QuikView, you'll find instructions on my updated subscribe page, which is here:
http://www.carltonscorner.com/subscribe.htm
I hope you're all having a great year so far!
I'll get back to my "normal" schedule by Monday, 1/12.
