What the Affordable Care Act Has Done For Me
I get so angry when I hear Republicans crying for a repeal in the health care law. I get angry because they lie about it to everyone. Well, this is what the Act has done for me...
Before the law, I could not get insurance for myself or my son because of pre-existing conditions. It didn't matter what the cost of insurance was; I could have had all the money in the world, but the fact that I have thyroid disease and my son has ADHD, put us out of the game.
Now, however, I can buy insurance. I cannot be denied for my thyroid condition. My son cannot be denied for his ADHD either. So, the affordable care act is a good thing.
You see, since a thyroid condition effects every cell in the body, I could not get insurance because of the risk of my condition prompting new issues with my health. This is particularly important since I am involved in a pending cancer diagnosis. Without health care coverage, I could die. That would leave my children without a mother. With health care coverage, I could live.
To all of those Republicans who want to trash this law, I have one thing to say... Stick it! You may have it good right now, but that doesn't mean the rest of us should suffer so that you can keep what you have. That is what it really boils down to... Paying to live. If the super rich want to stay that way, then they should help others find even a percentage of their financial success. They should pay their fair share in taxes.
I have paid taxes all of my adult life. I have worked hard in the employment sector and as a mother raising her kids, so I should deserve health care, at the very least.
I don't drive fancy cars, or have toys to play with at the beach. I have a home and a husband and kids. I don't need more than that, but there are those who'd take even those things from me.
It is a sad situation when you are worth more to your family dead than alive. However, the health care law may make it possible for me to reach my 50's. I am 45 years old and have been pretty healthy thus far in life, but the cancer cloud looms large over my head. Obamacare, as it is called, may be what saves my life. Don't mess with it!
